🚗 WE’RE HIRING 🚗

At Scrap My Car Lymm, we believe too many vehicles that we purchase get crushed before every option has been explored or we can get round to repairing them for re-sale. While many of the cars we buy are no longer roadworthy, some are still repairable and deserve a second chance rather than being immediately scrapped, it’s quite literally, sacrilege but there’s only so many hours in the day. Recycling and reusing vehicles wherever possible is far better for the environment and helps reduce unnecessary waste ♻️

A lot of the cars we collect are simply too good to scrap, so wherever possible we try to find them a new home instead. Of course, when dealing with probate vehicles and similar situations where customers specifically want a certificate of destruction (COD) we will provide one, we always make sure we have full permission from our customers and that they’re completely happy before any vehicle is resold or reused.

That’s why we’re looking for an experienced mechanic / oily-fingered problem solver to join the team 🔧

Today’s collection wasn’t your average “end-of-life Astra”… oh no… this one’s a proper blast from the past 😍

Say hello to this 1980 Datsun 180D SSS – BARN FIND! 🐄🚗

This beauty has clearly been tucked away for years, and finding one like this in the UK is like spotting a unicorn… seriously, there are thought to be only around 8 left in total, with just a handful still on the road! 😮 ()

For those who don’t know, the SSS badge stood for “Super Sport Sedan”, meaning this wasn’t your average runabout back in the day – it was the top-spec, sporty version of the range 💪 ()

Under the bonnet, these typically packed a 1.8L engine with rear-wheel drive… simple, tough, and built in an era when cars were designed to LAST (and rust… let’s be honest 😂). Many didn’t survive thanks to corrosion, which makes barn finds like this even more special! ()

And let’s be real… this one has seen things 👀
Probably parked up “just for a few months” sometime in the 90s… and here we are in 2026 dragging it back into daylight!

An old Jaguar XJ6 (XJ40) that we recently collected – and this one’s a rare manual! 👀

The Jaguar XJ40 was produced between 1986 and 1994 as the next generation of Jaguar’s famous XJ luxury saloon, built in Coventry and designed to replace the long-running Series III.

Interesting facts about the Jaguar XJ6 (XJ40)

🔧 Manual ones are very rare
Around 90% of XJ40s were automatic, meaning manual cars like this are uncommon. Some estimates suggest only around 1–2% were built with a manual gearbox.

🏁 Proper classic British luxury
The XJ40 was a full-size luxury saloon, known for its leather interiors, walnut wood trim and incredibly smooth straight-six engines.

⚙️ Advanced for its time
When it launched in 1986 it featured several modern upgrades for Jaguar, including an electronic instrument cluster and improved suspension design.

🇬🇧 Award-winning safety
In 1993 the Jaguar XJ6 was named “Safest Car in Britain” following a UK government survey.

💎 A future classic
With over 200,000 XJ40s produced, the surviving examples are becoming increasingly desirable among classic car fans.

🚐 Scrap My Car Lymm – Another Day, Another Camper 🌿

Another day at Scrap My Car Lymm, another camper that looks like it’s been parked up since the Stone Age… or at least since Mick Jagger got his bus pass through the post.

Today’s star of the show is a 2002 Peugeot Boxer 2.8 camper, absolutely smothered in green moss. Honestly, it’s less “van” and more mobile allotment. We half expected a badger to pop out when we opened the door and ask us to keep the noise down.

Now let’s talk about the important bit first…
🔧 The engine – an absolute beast. The 2.8 lump still sounds like it could tow a small village and then ask for seconds. Proper old-school diesel strength. You can tell this thing was built back when vans were made of hopes, dreams, and solid metal.

🚪 The body, on the other hand…
Well… let’s just say it has the body of a Weetabix that’s been left in the rain. Panels have seen better days, arches are more suggestion than structure, and the moss has clearly made itself at home. Nature has well and truly claimed this one.

Inside? Pure camper nostalgia. You can almost smell the past holidays, burnt toast, and wet dogs. Somewhere in its history this van definitely hosted:
• One great road trip
• Several questionable parking spots
• And at least one argument over where the sat nav said to turn

Sadly, it’s reached the end of the road — but it’s going out with dignity, and probably a fair bit of compost.

Whether it’s stuck, seized, ancient, awkwardly parked, or simply not worth the hassle anymore — we will get it moved. And we’ll pay you for it.

🚛 BIG NEWS from Scrap My Car Lymm! 🚛

Our new (old) truck has finally earned its keep — it’s just hauled in its very first 4x4, a smashing little Mitsubishi Sh**un Pinin. Cute, chunky, and now officially recycled. 👍

We’ve had to say a tearful goodbye to our loyal 3.5-ton VW T4 recovery truck. Bless it — it tried its best, but with all the hefty vans and chunky 4x4s people keep handing us, it was getting a bit… how do we put this politely… overweight.

Enter the hero of the hour: our mighty Mercedes Atego. 💪
This beast can carry over 3 tonnes without breaking a sweat. Vans? Easy. Big 4x4s? No problem. Your cousin’s “project car” that hasn’t moved since 2006? Bring it on.

And if you have a large vehicle ready for disposal — big or small, long or low, running or absolutely refusing to — we’ll buy the lot.
