🌈 Nursery Rhymes with Tiny Explorers 🌈

We’ve been busy creating something a little bit special… our very first Tiny Explorers nursery rhyme video is now live! 🎢

We created this with our children in mind β€” particularly those who will be starting with us soon, to help support their transition into the setting, and also for those who have time away during holiday breaks. Having a familiar face, voice and routine can really help ease that period of separation and support a smoother transition back πŸ’›

Nursery rhymes are so much more than just songs β€” they play a really important role in supporting children’s development across the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Through simple, repetitive and engaging rhymes, children are developing:
✨ Communication & Language – listening, understanding and joining in with words and sounds
✨ Literacy – recognising rhythm, rhyme and early phonics patterns
✨ Physical Development – actions like clapping, tapping and movement songs
✨ Personal, Social & Emotional Development – building confidence, enjoyment and shared experiences
✨ Expressive Arts & Design – using imagination, music and creativity

This is a lovely way for our Tiny Explorers children to stay connected and feel part of our setting, even when they’re not with us 🌈

You can watch the video here:
πŸ‘‰ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kHZ6IRXQCk

I hope you and your little ones enjoy singing along as much as we do 🎡

A vibrant and colourful week celebrating the Festival of Holi at Tiny Explorers 🌸

We explored the story of Holi together, learning about the meaning behind the festival and how it is celebrated. The children showed so much curiosity and excitement as we linked their learning through play, creativity, and real experiences.

🌈 Communication & language – listening to the story of Holi and talking about what we saw and understood
🌈 Understanding the world – exploring different cultures, traditions, and celebrations
🌈 Personal, social & emotional development – sharing experiences and learning about similarities and differences

The children loved engaging in imaginative play, recreating the throwing of coloured powders using bright scarves πŸ’«

🌈 Imaginative play – acting out experiences and expressing ideas
🌈 Physical development – moving their bodies freely with scarves and developing coordination

We continued our colour exploration through a variety of activities 🎨

🌈 Colour hunts – finding and matching colours in the environment
🌈 Creative expression – creating artwork using different colours and a range of media
🌈 Maths links – sorting, matching, and comparing colourful objects by size, shape, and colour

We also explored images of Hindu gods, making connections and comparisons with our own lives and experiences

🌈 Understanding the world – recognising diversity and different beliefs
🌈 Communication – sharing thoughts and observations

Our sensory experiences were a real highlight this week ✨

🌈 Bubble play with sitar music – observing colours within bubbles and noticing rainbow reflections
🌈 Sensory exploration – engaging sight, sound, and movement
🌈 Focus & attention – carefully watching and describing what we could see

A visit to the sensory room and soft play supported further learning and development

🌈 Exploring light & colour – comparing different coloured lights
🌈 Listening skills – identifying and responding to different sounds
🌈 Turn-taking & cooperation – developing social skills through shared play
🌈 Physical development – climbing, balancing, and exploring safely

We also incorporated STEM learning through building and problem-solving activities 🧱

🌈 Critical thinking – exploring how to build and create stable structures
🌈 Problem solving – using initiative to improve designs
🌈 Understanding cause & effect – learning what works and what doesn’t

During our country park visit earlier in the week, we continued linking our Holi theme to the natural environment 🌿

🌈 Exploring colours in nature – noticing natural variations and patterns
🌈 Physical development – navigating outdoor spaces and building confidence

We also joined in with an Easter egg hunt, linking celebrations and extending learning 🐣

🌈 Matching & sorting – pairing coloured egg tops and bottoms
🌈 Visual discrimination – recognising patterns and copying images
🌈 Understanding the world – learning about Easter and different traditions

We carried this learning on at home through creative experiences, making clay Easter and spring-themed models ready to paint at a later date 🌼

🌈 Expressive arts & design – exploring different materials such as clay
🌈 Creativity – designing and shaping their own ideas
🌈 Fine motor skills – strengthening hand muscles through moulding and shaping
🌈 Imagination – bringing seasonal ideas to life through their creations

And a big warm welcome to our new starter this week πŸ’› it has been lovely seeing them begin to settle and explore their new environment.

At Tiny Explorers, we embrace every opportunity to explore the world through meaningful, hands-on experiencesβ€”supporting children’s development across all areas of the EYFS and Birth to 5 Matters 🌍

A lovely week celebrating St Patrick’s Day the Tiny Explorers way… out in nature πŸ€

We headed out on a β€œgreen hunt” at Itchen Valley Country Park, exploring the play trail and spotting all things green along the way 🌿 The children were so engaged, curious, and excited to discover what they could find.

🌈 Exploring colours – identifying and matching different shades of green in nature
🌈 Maths in the moment – counting flowers, comparing sizes, and noticing big/small, tall/short plants
🌈 Shape awareness – spotting natural shapes in leaves, petals, and surroundings
🌈 Communication & language – chatting about what we could see and building vocabulary through real experiences

Our visit to the farm added even more hands-on learning 🐐

🌈 Understanding the world – learning what animals eat and how they live
🌈 Maths skills – counting legs, comparing animal sizes, and noticing differences
🌈 Literacy opportunities – spotting letters and familiar signs in the environment
🌈 Curiosity & questioning – asking β€œwhy?” and β€œhow?” about the animals

At the play trail within the park, the children developed their physical skills while exploring the equipment and natural surroundings πŸ’ͺ

🌈 Physical development – climbing, balancing, and moving with confidence
🌈 Risk awareness – learning how to navigate equipment safely
🌈 Confidence building – trying new challenges independently

One of the highlights was creating our beautiful bunny nature art along the trail 🐰 using natural materials we discovered on our adventure

🌈 Expressive arts & design – creating with natural, open-ended resources
🌈 Focus & attention – concentrating and taking pride in their creations
🌈 Imagination – turning found treasures into something meaningful

Learning in nature offers endless opportunities for discovery, creativity, and development across all areas of the EYFS 🌍

At Tiny Explorers, we believe some of the very best learning happens when children are free to explore, investigate, and experience the world around them πŸ’š

🌿 A wonderful woodland adventure today! 🌿

Today we headed off to the woods where the children enjoyed a morning full of exploration, learning and outdoor adventure.

We safely used our camping stove to cook our snack and toasted marshmallows. This was a great opportunity to talk about fire safety, risk awareness and following instructions, helping children learn how to manage small risks safely and responsibly.

The children explored the natural play area using logs to build their own structures. This encouraged STEM thinking, problem solving and teamwork as they experimented with balance, structure and design.

In the sand we practised early literacy and maths, drawing letters, numbers and shapes. We then went on a nature hunt, comparing sizes, quantities and numbers, which supported early mathematical understanding.

There were lots of lovely moments of conversation and communication as the children shared ideas, asked questions and talked about what they discovered in the woods.

We also rigged up the hammock between the trees for some relaxing song time, before enjoying a picnic lunch together.

Days like this support so many areas of the EYFS curriculum:

🌈 Communication and Language
🌈 Physical Development
🌈 Personal, Social and Emotional Development
🌈 Literacy
🌈 Mathematics
🌈 Understanding the World
🌈 Expressive Arts and Design

Outdoor learning helps children build confidence, curiosity and independence while developing friendships and a love of nature. 🌳

🌳✨ New Forest Wellie Walk Adventures ✨🌳

Today we headed into the sunshine for a magical wellie walk in the New Forest β˜€οΈπŸ’š

We spotted the famous New Forest ponies 🐴 and practised our counting skills β€”
How many ponies can we see?
Are there more brown ones or white ones?
Who can count the birds flying overhead? 🐦

We turned puddles into maths challenges too…
How many jumps across?
Which puddle is bigger?
Is this stick longer or shorter?
Can we find the tallest tree? 🌲

We compared sizes, counted footsteps, measured jumps, and even estimated how far we could throw pinecones. Real-life maths, naturally woven into play.

Of course, the fairy door hunt was very serious business πŸ§šβ€β™€οΈπŸšͺ β€” counting how many we discovered and deciding which one was the smallest, biggest and most colourful.

Learning outdoors builds confidence, curiosity and a real understanding of the world around us 🌈

Fresh air, rosy cheeks, muddy wellies and meaningful learning.
