Don't labour the point.

This is the title of my latest blog.

It is all about the proposed legislative changes by the Labour Party, and what they mean for employers (and what you should be discussing with your HR team).

The blog features in my monthly subscriber email, which also includes:

- Amazon bringing 1.5 million people back to the workplace;
- Two family events up north and in the Cotswolds;
- a brand new Hilton in God's Own Country;
- a client's new flagship facility;
- my wonderful VA being nominated for an award;
- one in five companies having a freeze on hiring;
- what I learned at The Owners Network;
- the relaunch of FaB Networking in Coventry; and
- an event for HR professionals in Nottingham.

I work with a wide variety of businesses across the UK and Europe.

However, thanks to a few people, I have attracted a number of clients from the world of martial arts.

One of those, Banks' Martial Arts Academy, is looking for a boxing and kick-boxing coach.

If you or anyone you know is experienced in martial arts, and can be a part of the team in Milton Keynes, please let me know and I will pass on your details.

You know that feeling when you say ‘yes’ to something and then think ‘am I good enough?’

Hana Smiddy - Actioncoach Warwick is my business coach.

She asked business owners to feature in her new ‘Business Spotlight’ series, and as soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to be a part of it.

As soon as I said yes to being a part of the series, I wondered whether I should go through with it. Hana already knows me and my business inside out, and didn’t question it, even when I questioned myself.

The series is designed to highlight the trials and tribulations of running a business, and how our insights and learnings can help others.

We discussed everything from the moment I was made redundant and took the leap into self-employment; why values are often the most important element of a business relationship; and the challenges I have faced over the four years I have been in business.

I’m glad that I took the opportunity to start my business; and I’m glad that I said yes to being a part of this series.

It was great to chat to Hana, and I really enjoyed sharing my story so far. Thankfully, she is helping me to create bigger and better stories in my business going forward.

If you have any interest in martial arts, one of my fabulous clients is running two brilliant seminars.

Richard Canton of Canton Martial Arts - Eastbourne has secured two renowned specialists to present seminars.

I have written about Canton before as they have fantastic values and are very supportive of the local community, helping young people to get into sports (and, specifically, martial arts).

Richard is very well known in the martial arts community and someone I have known for a while.

The seminars are in June and July so, if you can get to Eastbourne, then I would highly recommend getting a place at the events.

All the details are in the images below, and please let me know if you have any questions which I can pass on to the organisers.

Never before have I shut my business over Christmas.

Since setting up my HR company almost four years ago, I have always worked over the festive holiday.

I am not a fan of Christmas at all and, for me, it's just another holiday like any other. Therefore, I have always worked through it - often to take my mind off things but also to take the opportunity of getting some work done while everyone else is away from their desks.

However, this year, my wife and I had a few things planned, such as seeing family, taking Basil (the dog) for longer walks, and watching Die Hard (an annual Christmas Eve tradition).

So I have stayed off my emails and off social media (in comparison) to really make the most of the holidays.

As I have big plans for 2023 (more on that soon), the rest and recuperation is much needed.

Have you worked over the festive period or made the most of the downtime?

My business is rapidly growing and I am looking for an experienced HR Advisor to join the team.

I have big, long-term plans for my business, and the next phase will start in Q1 of 2023.

I am looking to expand my client base, and to help with this, I am expanding my team.

Are you - or do you know - an experienced HR Advisor looking for an amazing opportunity in early 2023?

Do you want to provide expert support and guidance to clients who don’t know how to do HR for themselves?

If so, please read the full job description at the link below.

P.S. I would really appreciate it if you could share this post with your networks, thank you.

I have already booked a holiday for 2024.

It is my fifth wedding anniversary that year, and we have booked a trip to Jamaica.

We used our regular travel advisor, Sarah Gosling at Hays Travel - we have been using her since she arranged our overseas wedding a few years ago, and she has taken care of all our holidays since then.

Sarah contacted me to say the flights were available and we booked the trip the same day they were released. Even better, we will be sitting on the front row of the plane.

We have tickets to see Peter Kay in late 2023, and I thought they were far away - this trip is even further than that.

Our relationship with Sarah is a perfect example of loyalty, thanks to the great service she always provides.

Have you ever planned something over a year in advance?

I am in a good position where I get to choose the clients I work with, and I always take values into consideration.

All of my clients have values that align with my own, and that is important to me.

One of my clients, Richard Canton of Canton Martial Arts, is always looking at ways to give back to the community.

Richard runs a martial arts centre, and is starting classes for special needs (SEN) children.

The idea came from the fact that he was training two young girls with SEN on a private basis and will now offer public classes for other SEN children.

For Richard, this is so much more than simply making money. This is about supporting a local community by continuing to be an inclusive school.

If you are local to the centre in Eastbourne, please do show your support and share his message to the wider community.

We all know that, despite now being December, that Christmas doesn't officially start until England get knocked out of (or win) the World Cup.

However, that doesn't mean that I should wait to send out my Christmas cards.

I have been organised again this year and sent out cards and my branded calendars to clients, suppliers, and those who have made a difference to my business this year.

I love the calendars because they keep my brand at the forefront of everyone's minds (by, hopefully, being on their desks).

Do you send Christmas gifts in your business?

P.S. If you are a client and they haven't arrived yet, they will soon. If you aren't a client and want to know how to get one of these, then drop me a message.
