Rowans Hospice launches ‘Sponsor a Nurse’ appeal: Help fund the nurses who deliver care when it matters most
Rowans Hospice has launched its "Sponsor a Nurse" campaign, a new initiative designed to help fund the salaries of its specialised nursing team. The campaign invites the local community to support the delivery of vital Hospice care through regular monthly donations.
Every day, Rowans Hospice nurses deliver compassionate, person-centred care focused on comfort, dignity, and quality of life. Whether they are easing pain on the In-Patient Unit, offering a steady hand within a patient’s home, or guiding loved ones through the landscape of grief, their work reaches into every corner of the community.
For local families facing their most difficult moments, these nurses represent a lifeline of expert care and quiet reassurance. “My role is about easing pain, offering comfort, and making sure no one feels alone at the end of their life. It’s a privilege to support patients and their loved ones with compassion, dignity, and kindness during such an important time,” comments In-patient Unit Nurse Jemima.
Local care made possible by local support
While the care provided by Rowans Hospice is free of charge to patients and their families, the organisation operates as a charity. It costs Rowans Hospice around £10 million pounds each year to provide care, and 78% of its annual income is generated through the generosity of the local community via legacies, donations, fundraising events, corporate partnerships and retail shops. The "Sponsor a Nurse" campaign represents a vital new addition to these diverse fundraising efforts, offering a direct way for supporters to stand alongside the Hospice team by providing consistent, monthly support for frontline nursing care.
The Impact of Monthly Giving
The campaign aims to create a reliable stream of funding, allowing the Hospice to plan its future services with greater confidence. By choosing to sponsor a nurse, supporters provide the steady funding required to keep specialist care available in the heart of Hampshire.
Anyone can join the program with a minimum monthly donation of £10, which translates to 30 minutes of expert nursing care. Other impact levels include:
£20 a month to fund one hour of nursing care.
£40 a month to fund two hours of nursing care.
Those who sign up will receive a welcome pack, regular updates and an annual message of thanks, sharing the real-world impact their contributions have on the lives of local patients and their loved ones.
