Asking for help isn't a sign of failure. It's often a positive step that can help maintain independence, reduce stress and provide reassurance for everyone involved.

There doesn't have to be a perfect time. Sometimes the best time is simply when support could make life a little easier. 💙

Support needs can change over time, and that’s completely natural. 💙

For a loved one, the right support might begin with a little help around the home, then grow into companionship, personal care or extra reassurance as routines change.

We believe care should adapt around the person, helping them stay confident, independent and in control of everyday life.

How has support changed for your loved one over the years? We’d love to hear your thoughts below. 👇

THE COST OF WAITING

They wanted to stay at home.
They wanted their privacy.
They didn't want someone living in their house.
And we understood.

He was 90+. His wife was 85+ They had been married for 68+ years.
He was living with dementia, and his ability to manage his personal care was declining.

We recommended considering live-in care for couples because we could see that their needs were changing. They chose personal care visits instead.
Three months later, we did the personal care in morning and later he went outside to put the dustbin out.
He fell.
He broke his hip.

Nobody was there to see him fall.
His wife eventually realised he was missing. She went looking for him and found him on the floor.
An ambulance was called. He went to hospital.

His heart was functioning at around 25%. Following the hip fracture, his condition deteriorated, and he was immediately moved to end-of-life care within 24 to 48 hours.
Within 3 days we lost him.

After 65+ years together, the wife isn't simply missing her husband.
She's missing her companion.

This is the pain behind the pain.
We cannot say that live-in care would definitely have changed what happened.

But we can learn from it.
Dementia progresses.
Risks change.
Care needs change.

And sometimes, the care plan needs to change too. Live-in care can be expensive.

But the question isn't only:

"Can we afford live-in care?"
Sometimes we also need to ask:
"What could it cost us if we wait?"

Start the conversation while you still have choices.

Talking about care isn't always easy, especially when emotions are involved. But approaching the conversation in the right way can help everyone feel heard and supported. ❤️

Start with listening, not solutions:
- Ask how they're feeling and what matters most to them before suggesting support.

Focus on goals, not problems
- Talk about how support could help them continue doing the things they enjoy and value.

Take small steps
- Care doesn't have to start with major changes. Exploring options together can help make the conversation feel less overwhelming.

The best care conversations are built on trust, understanding and choice.
