Franchising is just one model you could choose to start your own business. As Barbara Hodgson, founder of Your Business Matters, has experience in being in a franchise model in the past, she has put together this post to share her insights with you.

There are a number of factors you’ll have to consider, before you can decide whether or not you will indeed invest in a franchise.

Perhaps you have come across a franchise which appeals to you, your motivations or skills? Then this is the post for you.

First and foremost, Barbara suggests that you think about what your personal goals and aspirations are, and also consider what your current and planned financial situation is.

If you find the right product or service and the finances work for you, you’ll also need to consider the structure of the franchise model and your alignment with the values and vision of the franchisor.

While a franchise business offers the benefits of established branding, support systems and proven success, it also comes with a set of limitations and financial commitments. You’ll need to consider the pros and cons of the opportunity, do thorough research and maybe seek professional advice, to establish if this is the right business for you.

Today, there are so many networking groups and opportunities. If we're not careful, we can spend a lot of time flitting from one to the other, and before we know it, we’re not awfully sure what we have to show for the time.

The way Barbara likes to look at a networking meeting is that its only ONE part to coming into that community. The true value of the connections you make is in spending that extra time and attention in truly getting to know the people.
