We’d like to take a moment to give a massive shout-out to The Woolly Shepherd Ltd! 🐑

The Woolly Shepherd is a UK-based company creating sustainable acoustic products, primarily from 100% British sheep’s wool and other natural materials.

In simple terms, they help make noisy spaces quieter and easier to hear in — something that is particularly important in educational environments. You’ll even spot some of their acoustic clouds and wall panels helping to improve the sound environment in some of the rooms here at The Elizabeth Foundation. 💜

But their support doesn’t stop there…

The Woolly Shepherd offers acoustic surveys to its clients and, rather than accepting payment for these surveys, they invite clients to make a donation to The Elizabeth Foundation instead. What a wonderful way to combine their expertise with giving back! 🥰

We’d like to say a huge thank you to The Woolly Shepherd and all of their wonderful clients, who have collectively raised a fantastic £750 over the past nine months to help deaf babies and young children learn to listen and talk. 👂💚

Did you know that poor acoustics can make it significantly more difficult for children to develop key language skills such as understanding the sounds within words (phonological awareness) and building their vocabulary?

Creating sound-friendly spaces free from reverberation and echo is essential for young learners, especially for children with any degree of deafness. Here at The Elizabeth Foundation, all our classrooms are acoustically treated to absorb and soften sound, creating a calm and focused learning environment that supports concentration and promotes language development.

One example of our acoustically treated spaces is our sensory room which is fitted with acoustic sound clouds created by The Woolly Shepherd Ltd. These beautiful sound clouds are suspended from the ceiling and absorb sound across their entire surface creating a quiet, relaxed and soothing area for children who require sensory breaks or a place to self-regulate.

☁️✨ Stisted has had a dreamy upgrade! ☁️✨

Today, fluffy white sound attenuators—resembling clouds straight out of a storybook—have been installed to beautifully soften the hall’s acoustics.

Tomorrow, our babies in massage class can gaze up at these floating “clouds” while we all enjoy the calm and serene atmosphere they help create. 🌥️💛

A huge thank you to Ruth Jubb and the Stisted Village Hall team for their incredible perseverance in securing funding from The Lottery Fund to make this happen, and to The Woolly Shepherd Ltd for their amazing installation work.
