There's a lot of discussion about AI replacing people in tendering and procurement.

Personally, we think the more interesting question is what happens when AI starts talking to AI, while the humans stop applying judgement.

That thought inspired our latest blog by our fabulous Bid Writer Clara, which imagines procurement in 2027.

In our fictional future, one AI writes a technically impressive tender, another AI scores it, and everything appears to work perfectly... until the interview, when both sides realise nobody has actually read or understood what was submitted.

It's an exaggerated scenario, but it does raise a genuine point.

AI is an excellent tool. We use it ourselves, and it can undoubtedly save time and improve efficiency. But it still needs people who can challenge what's been written, spot when something doesn't make sense and make sure what's being promised can actually be delivered.

Technology will continue to change tendering, but we don't believe expertise and critical thinking are going anywhere.

Our latest blog imagines what might happen if they did. We'd love to know whether you think we're wildly off the mark, or a little closer than we'd like to admit.

People often assume winning public sector contracts comes down to writing great tender responses but in reality, that's only one small part of the process.

The businesses that win consistently usually spend far more time on what happens before the tender is even published. They already know:

- which contracts fit their business
- what resources they'll need to deliver them
- where they can genuinely add value
- what evidence they'll need to demonstrate capability

By the time the opportunity arrives, they're building on solid foundations rather than starting from scratch.

Good tendering isn't just about writing, it's about preparation, that's often where the biggest competitive advantage comes from.

How prepared are you for next tender submission?

❓ YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED: What types of Repairs and Maintenance contracts are tendered?

The repairs and maintenance sector covers a much wider range of contract opportunities than many businesses realise. Common examples include:

- Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM)
- Reactive maintenance contracts
- Refurbishment and renovation works
- Installation projects
- Electrical services
- Plumbing services
- HVAC maintenance and installation
- Roofing and building fabric works

Some contracts focus on a single specialist service, while others combine multiple disciplines into a larger facilities or property maintenance contract.

One mistake we often see is businesses assuming tender opportunities only exist for large national contractors. In reality, many buyers are looking for regional and local suppliers with the right experience, capacity and technical expertise.

The key is understanding which opportunities align with your business, ensuring you meet the requirements, and presenting your experience in a way that clearly demonstrates your ability to deliver.

If you're looking to win more repairs and maintenance contracts but aren't sure where to start, we'd be happy to help.

"The mobilisation period will be four weeks."

Translation: We needed this yesterday.

Our latest Procurement Phrasebook blog is now live, taking a tongue-in-cheek look at the language of procurement, frameworks, portals and tender submissions.

If you've ever:
βœ”οΈ Argued with a procurement portal
βœ”οΈ Wondered what a buyer really meant
βœ”οΈ Received a rejection email at 4:47pm on a Friday

You'll probably recognise a few of these.

What's the most memorable procurement phrase you've come across?

Have you noticed a sudden increase in public sector pipeline opportunities recently?

You're not imagining it.

We've seen a significant influx of pipeline notices over the past few weeks, and there's a good reason why.

Under the Procurement Act, many contracting authorities were required to publish pipeline information between 1 April and 26 May for contracts valued at over Β£2 million that they expect to procure during the following 18 months.

In simple terms, buyers have been publishing details of what they expect to be coming to market between now and October 2027.

For SMEs, this is valuable information. Rather than waiting for a tender to be published and then rushing to respond, you now have the opportunity to look ahead and start preparing.

This could mean:
βœ… Identifying opportunities that fit your business
βœ… Reviewing capacity and resource requirements
βœ… Obtaining relevant accreditations
βœ… Building partnerships and supply chains
βœ… Strengthening policies and documentation
βœ… Creating a more focused bidding strategy

One of the biggest reasons businesses struggle with tendering is lack of preparation time. The organisations that tend to perform best are rarely the ones that start preparing when the tender is published, they're the ones that started preparing months before.

If you're interested in growing through public sector contracts, now is a great time to review the pipeline notices being published and start planning ahead. The opportunities you win in 2027 may well be the ones you're preparing for today.

We're proud to be supporting Small Business Week this week.

Small businesses are the backbone of the UK economy, creating jobs, supporting local communities and driving innovation.

At Complete Tenders, our mission is simple - to help more SMEs win contracts and access opportunities that can support long-term growth.

Too many great businesses miss out on public sector work because the process feels complicated or inaccessible. We believe it should be easier for SMEs to compete and succeed.

Whether you're already tendering or just starting to explore public sector opportunities, we're here to help.

This week, we'd love you to support small businesses by buying from them, recommending them, collaborating with them and helping them grow.

Because when small businesses succeed, everyone benefits.

❓ YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED: Do you need accreditations to win fire safety tenders?

In many fire safety tenders, accreditations play an important role, but not always in the way businesses think.

Some accreditations are mandatory requirements, meaning without them, your bid may not progress any further. Others are desirable and help strengthen buyer confidence, but may not automatically exclude you.

Common examples include:

BAFE
ISO 9001
CHAS or SafeContractor
NICEIC

The key is understanding:

-- which accreditations are essential
-- which are advantageous
-- and how to present your existing compliance properly within your submission

One mistake we often see is businesses assuming they cannot bid at all because they don’t hold every possible accreditation. In reality, some buyers will accept equivalent evidence, experience or alternative standards, depending on the contract.

The important thing is understanding the tender requirements early and identifying any gaps before submission.

If you’re unsure whether your business is ready to bid for fire safety contracts, we’d be happy to help you assess where you stand.
