This quote will stick in my mind forever... Came about while taking great pleasure in annoying my daughter, teasing her about boys as she came home from school. Curiously though the impact of this statement can be very different when it's not seen in context, or just simply written.

With so many people working remotely, how often have we just fired off an email, when a quick, simple phone call would have had the impact we sort? Anyone else had some great one liners that have come about recently?

It's been a very busy few months for us since lockdown!

We've been delivering our ILM Level 3 and Level 5 leadership qualifications online, running webinars every Friday and holding remote individual and group coaching sessions. The coaching sessions have been a great opportunity for our learners to reflect on how their learning can help them tackle real issues back at work... This gets us quite close to replicating some of the work we've normally done face-to-face.

Hope everyone is keeping safe!

Watching the Martian yesterday reminded me that...

I'd imagine that many of us are currently faced with perhaps a few more problems than we'd normally be dealing with and sometimes taking a break is the best way forward...

I watched the Martian for about the 4th time yesterday, I think because it always reminds me about the importance of perseverance, which, given the current circumstances seems quite suited!

Normally I stop watching films I've seen before, about 10mins before the end, no idea why, but on this occasion I watched the ending. Really glad I did because the ending lines from Mark, played by Matt D are...

"Solve 1 problem as a time, then if you solve enough problems you get to go home"

There's a whole bunch of problems I'm solving at the moment, as I would imagine many people are and this closing line I took as a reminder to line these problems up and knock them down 1 at a time.

What one liners from films have struck you lately?

2 proven tips for looking after your remote team.

1). Have a team call every Monday (9.30am works well) and give everyone 1 or 2 mins to update everyone on how they are getting on, what they are working on the coming week and what they need from you and the team to help.

2). This is the important one... Really listen to what everyone on the call says and more importantly, how they say it. You'll know your team members quite well and if any of them sound a bit down, worried or just not quite themselves, block out some time to check-in with them 1-2-1.

Looking after a remote team requires consistency and remember, things will start getting back to normal at some point and now is an opportunity for team leaders/managers etc to really show that they give a s**t about their people.
