Do you post like mad but see no engagement? 🔥
There’s a chance your content is not what your audience is looking for.
Have a look at this list and check if you are guilty of these common mistakes on your social channels.
Improve where needed and you will start to reap the results. 👍
1️⃣ BEING TOO SALESY
Your goal should be to entertain or help your audience.
They won’t follow you if you are pitching your services repeatedly. It’s ok to do that but with a pinch of salt…
2️⃣ WORKING WITHOUT A STRATEGY OR A GOAL
Posting every day is great but you undermine all your efforts if you don't have a valid strategy and a plan. Think of the content as the flesh and strategy as the bones: you can’t have content without a structure. It will simply fall down to pieces.
3️⃣ ASSUMING YOUR AUDIENCE IS EVERYONE
Hard as it is you need to find a niche. You can’t talk to anyone nor offer your services or sell your products to everybody. If you don’t target a specific audience your message will be weak and useless. So find a niche, sketch your ideal customers/clients and talk to them. Be specific!
4️⃣ BUYING FOLLOWERS
That’s a no! Definitely! Its’ like cheating and, besides, it’s useless since these fake followers won’t interact, they won’t engage nor comment and they won’t ever become clients. So what’s the point?
5️⃣ CHOOSING THE WRONG TONE
The tone of voice is crucial and it depends both on your brand and on your client niche. It could be serious or funny or intimate… Whatever works for you. Just remember to adapt it to brand and niche and then keep it consistent.
6️⃣ TREATING ALL SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS THE SAME
Each platform has its unique features and to make the best use of them you need to know their strength and to exploit them. So better not to use the exact same content and strategy on each platform.
7️⃣ FAILING TO ENGAGE IN CONVERSATIONS
The name is not just media but Social media because sociality and engagement are crucial in these platforms. So engage with your followers, answer their questions, ask questions, find posts related to your audience and brand and engage in conversations. It’s not only useful, it’s also fun.
8️⃣ MAKING IT ALL ABOUT YOU
An easy mistake but remember: your brand is not for you, it’s for your clients. So what’s the point of speaking only about yourself? It’s good your audience gets to know you but your posts should speak to them, answer their questions, give a solution, help them with their struggle.
9️⃣ BEING INAUTHENTIC OR COLD
A balance is paramount in your social channels: as per point 8 you should speak to your audience and help them but you need to do that by being you. That means you have to find your style, your tone and they should be you. Be authentic, speak from your heart and your audience will feel it.
🔟 USING IRRELEVANT HASHTAGS
Hashtags are very useful to increase your followers and be found by your potential clients. If you use them right, they can really help your channels. So spend some time and research the best hashtags for your brand and services and remember to update them every now and then to keep them effective.
