This is a sad state of the current times as HMRC try to recoup their overspend due to the pandemic. So far there have been 7 suicides due to the Loan Charge brought in to claim back tax on loan schemes HMRC deem to be disguised remuneration.

The law is changing with regards CIS within the construction industry. HMRC is getting tougher on those that abuse the system. The changes will be effective from April 2021.

The government is introducing legislation making four changes to the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) rules in a bid to tackle abuse and strengthen HMRC’s powers to act, which are set to impact contractors, of whom around 250,000 are registered for the CIS
