For almost 22 years, NWGR has been at the forefront of plasterboard recycling in the UK, providing what we believe is the country's only true closed-loop recycling solution.
Every tonne of plasterboard waste we process is recycled back into new plasterboard, helping to reduce landfill, conserve resources, and support a more sustainable construction industry.
But our commitment to sustainability goes beyond gypsum recovery.
One of the by-products of the recycling process is the plasterboard paper lining. Rather than allowing this valuable material to go to waste, NWGR works with dedicated recycling partners to ensure it is put to good use. When appropriately processed and largely free from gypsum contamination, this paper can be repurposed as bedding for large animal stock.
The result is a highly absorbent, soft, warm, and cost-effective bedding product that provides a sustainable alternative to traditional materials such as straw and wood shavings.
Of course, strict regulations apply. In the UK and Europe, gypsum-containing waste is highly restricted due to the risk of hydrogen sulphide gas formation in slurry systems. That's why careful separation, regulatory compliance, and adherence to waste exemptions and duty of care requirements are essential throughout the process.
