Feel Good Fridays are already underway at Riverside 💚

September tends to bring the return of timetables, routines, clubs, school and a calendar that suddenly seems to have remembered how to fill itself.

Feel Good Fridays offer something a little different for children aged 7–10.

Run by Relax Generations, these monthly sessions at Riverside give children some time at the end of the week to slow things down and reconnect.

Through breathing, grounding, meditation and guided activities, the sessions help children explore how their thoughts, emotions, bodies and senses are connected, while developing simple tools they can use in everyday life.

And importantly, it all happens together. Children get the chance to learn, share and spend time with others away from the usual screens, schedules and demands of the week.

Last Friday, Riverside hosted a People's Emergency Briefing, led by Lucy Rennie from LRComms, Richard Smith from PS Planet and Kerry Fox from The Performance House.

We'd been looking forward to bringing the screening specifically to business owners, but we hadn't fully anticipated the breadth of conversations (and questions) it would create in the room afterwards.

The briefing looks at the climate change emergency and what it could mean for the decisions we're making now and in the years ahead.

People travelled from much further afield than we'd expected to join us, alongside business owners and individuals from our local community. The conversation afterwards could easily have continued for another couple of hours.

There were the obvious questions around energy use, travel, suppliers and the way businesses operate. Then the conversation got bigger. What are we preparing for? What responsibilities do businesses have to the communities they operate within? And how much of this are we factoring into decisions we're already making now about tomorrow?

Riverside isn't only a place for appointments, classes and workshops. We're also interested in creating space for conversations that matter to the people, businesses and organisations around us. Last Friday was one of those.

Has anyone else attended or watched a People's Emergency Briefing? We'd be really interested to hear what you took from it.

Huge thanks to Elisabeth Goodman for her advice and expertise in the run-up to the screening, and to everyone who joined us and contributed to the conversation.

Another new addition to the Riverside calendar this September, this time from Sally. 🧘

On Thursday 17th September, Sally is bringing her Yin & Nervous System Restore class to Riverside.

This 75-minute session combines Yin Yoga, somatic movement, breath and nervous-system-informed practices. It's gentle, beginner-friendly and designed for anyone wanting to slow things down, release some tension and give their body and mind a proper chance to reset.

You don't need yoga experience and you certainly don't need to be able to fold yourself neatly in half. 😄

Another new offering is coming to Riverside this September. 🧶

Sam, Occupational Therapist and Riverside Associate, will be launching Knit Flow Grow on Thursday 17th September, a six-week Occupational Therapy group combining creativity, mindfulness and sensory modulation.

Here’s Sam to tell you more:

Knit Flow Grow – Coming to Riverside This September

I'm delighted to be launching Knit Flow Grow, a new six-week Occupational Therapy group at Riverside starting on Thursday 17th September 2026.

This is much more than a knitting or crochet group. Knit Flow Grow combines creativity, mindfulness and sensory modulation to help people slow down, reconnect with themselves and experience the calming benefits of meaningful occupation.

Each session includes a gentle guided meditation, mindful knitting or crochet, opportunities to connect with others, and practical insights into how our senses influence our wellbeing. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious or simply looking for a space to pause, the group offers a welcoming and supportive environment where you can learn skills to help you feel more balanced in everyday life.

No previous knitting or crochet experience is necessary, and all materials will be provided. Participants are also welcome to bring along an existing project if they prefer.

As an Occupational Therapist with a passion for creativity and wellbeing, I believe that meaningful occupations can be powerful tools for supporting mental health. Knit Flow Grow is an opportunity to discover how something as simple as knitting or crochet can become part of your own wellbeing toolkit.

Places will be limited to ensure a relaxed, supportive group experience. I look forward to welcoming you this autumn.

Interested in joining Sam?

Sessions are currently planned for Thursday evenings, with the possibility of a Thursday afternoon group if there’s enough interest.

Another new offering is coming to Riverside this September 👀

Kathryn is launching a series of Forkprovoking® Small Group Conversation Events, bringing just 2–6 people together to talk about food, nutrition and some of the real-life challenges that can make eating well rather less straightforward than it sounds.

First up is: MIDLIFE REBALANCE

📅 Tuesday 8th September
⏰ 11am–12pm
📍 Riverside, Whaley Bridge
💷 £45 per person

This is an interactive session, so alongside Kathryn sharing her expertise and enthusiasm for nutrition and home cooking, there’ll be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and talk about the realities of eating well alongside the pressures of midlife.

You’ll leave with practical food ideas and a checklist of actions you can actually take home and use.

And with only 2–6 places available, this really will be a small-group conversation rather than sitting at the back of a packed workshop hoping nobody asks you anything. 😄

To book, contact Kathryn directly: [email protected]

And keep an eye on Riverside over the next few weeks. We’ve got several new groups, events and services joining the programme from September.

Not everyone needs a base like this.

But when you’re serious about your work, the environment you base yourself in matters. Not just the room, but the people around you, the standards, and how you show up professionally.

At Riverside, our Associates run their own practice, with the backing of a professional base and an engaged community around them.

If that approach fits how you like to work, get in touch. We currently have both fixed and flexible slots available most days including weekends.

EVENT HAPPENING THIS FRIDAY...
Running a business means making decisions about today. Good businesses also make time tRunning a business means making decisions about today. Good businesses also make time t think about tomorrow.

Most of us are so busy keeping everything moving that it's difficult to step back and look at the bigger picture.

On Friday 4th September at 2pm, we're hosting a screening of the People's Emergency Briefing at Riverside, followed by an open discussion about what it might mean for businesses and communities here in the High Peak.

This really isn't about telling anyone what to think, believe or do. It's an opportunity to watch the film, hear different perspectives and have a thoughtful conversation with other local business owners.

We're also delighted to be joined by Richard Smith, Environmental and Sustainability Expert from PS Planet, who will be on hand to answer questions and share practical insights for businesses.

Whether climate and sustainability are already on your agenda or you've simply been wondering what the conversation is all about, you'll be very welcome.
