A Sneak Peek...

A glimpse of just one corner of a remarkable collection from a Denbighshire country house that will feature prominently in our July auction.

From paintings and sculpture to furniture and decorative works of art, the auction offers a fascinating insight into a long-established collection.

Our fully illustrated catalogue will be available next week, with the auction taking place on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th July.

Sailing Into The Summer…

Consigned today for our July auction - this rare Alfred Dunhill 'Aquarium' RMS Queen Mary table lighter.

The body is made of moulded Lucite which has been etched to the interior and then delicately painted with a portrait of the famous transatlantic liner.

So why is it call an ‘aquarium’ lighter?

Well these lighters were more commonly etched and painted with tropical fish, and just because this one isn’t, Dunhill saw no reason to change the name!

The lighter was consigned by a family who bought it onboard when they cruised on the Queen Mary from Southampton to the Canary Islands in the 1960s.

When they got home family legend has it that the lighter was left next to an electric fire and got too hot, resulting in a bit of damage to the Lucite.

Despite this it remains a rare object and one that’s sure to be sought after in our next auction on July 15th and 16th. Estimate £600 to £1000.

If you have a fabulous object which you think may be rare or valuable, call us on 01948 800 202 to book a valuation appointment.

150 YEARS SINCE THE BIRTH OF ROBERT ‘MOUSEMAN’ THOMPSON

Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson was born on 7th May 1876, the sixth son of joiner John Thompson, in the small Yorkshire village of Kilburn.

A century later, his name and work remain highly sought after. Original ‘Mouseman’ pieces made in his lifetime can command huge sums at auction, but a ‘Mouseman’ piece from the hands of the highly skilled craftsmen Robert trained at his workshop in Kilburn are more affordable.

Their work, described at auction as being ‘by the workshop of Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson’, shows all the charm and quality of Robert’s own and we are
delighted to have the following pieces consigned to our June 10th and 11th auction next week:
