Don’t know whether you prefer soft or hard? Maybe you’d like both but just don’t have the room to store two big dumpys… we have the solution with our new mixed firewood bundle! Delivered in two smaller dumpy bags, one of each, you can have the best of both worlds.

Convenient if you have shorter fires during the week and longer ones of the weekend, or if you are new to having a log burner/fire and don’t know which you would use most yet.

Don’t forget your eco firelighters and kindling! 🔥

Community! Do you have a spare hour of a Saturday morning to help in the Mirehouse community?

It is something that is important to us at West Coast Composting Ltd. Today I’ve been out in our local community helping one of our customers, Brian, with an area of land next to St. Benedict’s church, which he is clearing up and improving of his own accord, in his free time.

The area was overgrown and thinking it an eyesore for the community, he wanted to do something about it and he got to work.

Many hands make light work, and with the opportunity to get out of the office I volunteered my services 😆 if you live in Mirehouse and can give Brian a hand then he will be there very early on a Saturday morning and would love a hand 😊

(Brian did give permission for me to post this as he would really appreciate the help 😊)

🔥 When was the last time you had your chimney swept?

As we head towards Autumn and the fires start going back on, now is a good time to make sure your chimney is ready for the season ahead.

For our latest blog, we spoke to Daniel from Wilkins Chimney Sweep The Lake District about chimney maintenance, what burning wet wood can do to your chimney, how often you should have it swept, and the things every wood-burning household should know.

If you’ve got a log burner or open fire, this one’s worth a read 👇

And when it’s time to stock up for autumn, our Ready to Burn logs are available for collection or delivery. 🪵🔥

What does burning wet wood do to your chimney? We ask a professional chimney sweep about firewood, chimney care, safety and getting the best from your fire.

Many of our customers — and particularly our allotment growers — put a lot of thought into what they grow their fruit and veg in, choosing our peat-free compost and soil improvers for their plots.

But have you ever stopped to think about the vegetables you pick up at the supermarket?

This post from Organic Growing raises an interesting point: while we might be making peat-free choices in our own gardens and allotments, peat can still be part of the growing process behind some of the food on supermarket shelves.

It’s definitely food for thought. 🌱

Did you know that lots of the food in your kitchen is grown using peat? Let's get peat out of our homes and off our plates! 🍽️

We're delighted to support the Peat-Free Partnership's campaign to help you remove hidden peat from your supermarket shop.

📢 It's time to ask your supermarket what they’re doing to remove peat, so you can enjoy peat-free food and help save peatlands for people and wildlife. Find an email template at 👉peatfreepartnership.org.uk

A slightly soggy start to Ennerdale Show yesterday! 🌧️🚜

The weather might not have been entirely on our side, but there was still plenty going on — tractors, horses, sheep and lots of familiar faces!

Pete seemed quite at home on the tractor wheel, we managed to catch some of the horses in action… and there was also a sheep that looked suspiciously like an enormous cheesy Wotsit. 😂🐑

Well done to everyone involved in putting the show together!
