Today had all the ingredients of a brilliant Cheshire Club morning.

The weather showed up. The views at Fairmont Cheshire – The Mere were beautiful. Fiddlestix played live as we welcomed everyone in, setting the scene perfectly while guests arrived, grabbed a coffee and pastry and conversations started flowing.

But, as always, it was the people in the room who made it.

Connections were made, some amazing introductions happened, conversations continued long after the formalities were over and we even got a behind-the-scenes tour of this incredible venue.

And then there was Michelle Eagleton.

Talking all things showbiz, sharing stories from an incredible career, but also reflecting so openly on her own journey, the twists, the lessons and the moments behind the person we see today.

Michelle 🩷 you NEED to write that book!

There were laughs, honesty, plenty of stories and those moments where you could see the whole room completely drawn in.

This is exactly what I want our events to be about.

Not simply walking into a room, swapping business cards and walking back out again.

Experiences. Conversations. Introductions. Opportunities. And connections that actually go somewhere.

I may have said today’s Coffee & Tour was going to be a one-off…

But after today?

I’m not quite so sure.

What makes an award actually worth winning?

For me, it’s simple.

You need to be able to trust how you got there.

When we created the Crème de la Crème Cheshire Business Awards, I wanted them to celebrate genuine achievement - not popularity behind closed doors, not who knows who, and certainly not who spends the most money.

That’s why we have a clear process involving public votes and independent judging.

It matters.

Because being shortlisted should mean something.

Becoming a finalist should mean something.

And lifting that trophy on 14 November should feel like a genuine achievement.

But there’s another side to entering awards that businesses sometimes overlook.

It makes you stop and look at what you’ve actually done.

The risks you’ve taken.
The customers you’ve won.
The people you’ve helped.
The difficult periods you’ve navigated.
The business you’ve kept building when nobody was applauding.

Sometimes we’re so busy chasing the next thing that we forget to recognise how far we’ve already come.

That’s what these awards are about.

Real businesses. Real stories. Real recognition.
