As Summer gives way to Autumn it's time to think about your logs if you have not already done so.

Have had a hectic couple of months clearing up the aftermath of storm Eunice.

From my base in Lydlinch I have been all over the Blackmore Vale processing fallen trees and snapped off tree limbs. From Lime trees to Douglas fir, Scott's pine to Spanish oak in my local churchyard.

Now that the weather has warmed up, it's an ideal time to get your logs split and use the warm weather to season them ready for next winter.

Hi All,

It's been a busy few months splitting logs and clearing up trees blown over in the recent storms. Not far from my base in Lydlinch I have a long-term project to regenerate an ancient 8 acre bluebell wood. I've been removing the dead and dangerous trees, clearing up the woodland floor, stacking up the brush to give cover for the wildlife, and using the larger pieces to make bug hotels.

Have now stopped as the bluebells are out of the ground, but looking forward to continuing this project when I can.

Sometimes I think I'm a magician to take a scrap pile of tree limbs like this and turn them into a neat pile of logs that should last a year and a half.

It may sound a bit early but should really be thinking about cutting and splitting logs for next year now, so they can dry out and season ready for use. If you are thinking of doing this give me a bell.

Just because the weather is so nice at the moment doesn't mean it's too early to think about your logs for winter, this weather is great for seasoning the wood so they burn better.
