A-Z Top Tips on Beating Stress and Building Resilience. H is for Helpful.

Is your behaviour helping you? If it is, great! If not, then change it to something that is! And the same applies to your thoughts. Negative, critical, self-defeating thoughts are not helpful and will contribute to your stress.

Resilient behaviour includes adopting attitudes, beliefs and behaviours that are helpful to you.

So no more ‘I can’t do this’ and more of ‘How can I do this?’ No more ‘I’ll be rubbish’ and more of ‘I know I can do this.’

If changing your thoughts to more helpful ones seems like too big an ask, then change your behaviour. You may not be feeling confident, but act as if you are. You may not be feeling positive about something, but start taking action to make it happen anyway, and notice how your feelings change to something more helpful for you.
