Microhive

Microhive A restless fundraising company on a mission to champion the collective power of giving pennies, not pounds. Let's empower change, one penny at a time.

Pennies from Heaven is the UK’s largest micro giving scheme for employees and pensioners and has already raised over 550,000,000 pennies for more than 250 charities since 1999. How does it work? Once companies have joined the scheme their employees and pensioner sign up once and from then on every salary is rounded down to the nearest pound with the pennies donated to charity. If net pay was £850.

34 then 34p would be donated. The most you can ever give is 99p every time you are paid. Major employers offering the scheme include Aldi UK, Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds Pharmacy, LV=, Palmer and Harvey, Skandia Life, TNT, Smiths News, WHSmith, 21 UK Councils and 145 Trusts from the largest UK employer the NHS. Why should we offer this to our staff and pensioners?
• Everyone likes to make a difference even when money is more scarce. PFH offers a way to join with colleagues and collectively raise significant money by each doing something small.
• It is simple to set up. Most major payroll systems are set up to run the scheme (ask us for details)
• It is simple to communicate. PFH provide tailored communications for you such as application forms, flyers, posters and website materials.
• It is simple to join. Complete a short form once. We are also able to offer a limited amount of employers online sign up for staff / pensioners via our website (ask us us for details)
• It is accessible to all. Many people find it difficult to budget the pounds but not the pence. PFH appeals to everyone on all salary levels.
• It works. Many employers have in excess of 20% of staff taking part. I already offer Payroll Giving, isn’t it all the same?
• PFH brings individuals together to collectively donate to one or multiple causes. Everyone can be included and feel a part of the success because donations are less than £1.
• Traditional payroll giving is a personal way for individuals to donate to charity; they choose the charity and the amount to give.

AWARDS | We are pleased to announce the winners of the Microhive Awards 2026!

Each year, the Microhive Awards give us a moment to pause. To recognise the organisations who have embraced collective giving and celebrate the employees who quietly choose to give, month after month. And most importantly, to say thank you.

This year’s Awards highlight a fundamental shift from a focus on not just about how much is given but how many people feel able to take part. We know that when giving becomes simple, affordable and part of everyday work life more people say yes, participation grows and impact becomes collective. Microhive is here to enable more people to give what they can.

We're proud that at a time when giving is falling, workplace giving is rising.

While the Microhive Awards are often used in ESG reporting and stakeholder communications, they are also a powerful tool with which to recognise the wonderful achievements of those employees that take part.

In a recent blog we highlight why recognition matters more than ever and how employees increasingly want to feel that their work has meaning beyond the day-to-day job.

Entries close 7th April.

The importance of THANK YOU.

Every organisation wants a motivated workforce, strong culture and a reputation for doing the right thing. But one of the simplest tools to achieve this is often overlooked: saying thank you.

Recognition matters. When employees feel valued for what they do, it strengthens their connection to their work, their colleagues and the organisation they represent.

That’s why the Microhive Awards exist. Each year we celebrate the organisations that are building a culture of generosity and purpose through workplace giving.

If you haven't entered yet, there's still time; entries close Friday 7th April.

Good luck!

Buy Social Corporate Challenge | This week, Social Enterprise UK will be hosting a 'Dragons Den' style event as part of the Buy Social Corporate Challenge. This initiative brings together major UK corporates with one bold ambition: To spend £1 billion with social enterprises through procurement.

And we're very proud to announce that Microhive has been selected to take part.

Kate Frost, Microhive CEO, will be advocating for why traditional workplace giving is not serving the majority of the workforce and how Microhive can redress the balance, providing a Purpose Driven Benefit that is accessible to all.

It's an exciting opportunity, one which we are sure Kate will make the most of.

2025 has been a year full of milestones at Microhive. Here is a very brief round up of some of the highlights.

We have achieved this growth in a challenging economy for individuals, businesses and charities. In 2025 the UK charity sector has faced an unprecedented squeeze as rising costs, stalling donations and continued economic pressures forced large numbers of organisations into distress, with many having to close or reduce the size of their workforce.

This simply means that the need for donations is greater than ever.

Through Microhive, organisations can offer an easy, inclusive way for employees to make a difference, without burden, but with real impact.

As we look ahead to 2026, we hope it will be the year you join us, helping to grow this collective effort and create even more positive social impact, together.

Happy 30th Birthday to South Western Ambulance Charity! A wonderful charity that is a huge support to the local community, making a real difference to the lives of those they serve.

The charity for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, this Trust has been a member of Microhive since 2008 (then called Pennies from Heaven) and since then employees have raised a incredible £67,000 for this amazing charity.

That's a lot of pennies!!

Please join us in wishing South Western Ambulance Charity a massive happy birthday and huge THANKYOU for the valuable work you do!

🥳It's time to celebrate our milestone birthday!

30 years ago, on 15th September 1995, this charity was registered with the Charity Commission, under the original name of 'West Country Ambulance Services Trust Fund'. Back then, the UK's best selling single was Unchained Melody by Robson and Jerome and the Tesco Clubcard had just been launched!

Join us throughout this week in celebrating 30 years of working alongside the Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust . We'll be sharing stories, insights and opportunities.

Since 2000, when Barclays UK joined Microhive (then known as Pennies from Heaven), Financial Service organisations have been a huge part of the Microhive family.

With more Financial Service organisations joining in the years that followed, together, this sector is approaching a significant milestone - £3 MILLION raised for charities across the UK!

It's hard to portray the impact that this has had, however, we can be sure that this has had a huge positive social impact for their benefitting charities, and furthermore, for the communities that they support.

Huge congratulations to everyone, especially those individuals that have given their pennies to make this possible 💜
