This is me, my mum, and our social workers outside the courts after my formal adoption. (I apologise for the bland outfits 🧥this was 1981, when brown was all the rage!)
In honour of National Adoption Week, I want to express my pride as an adoptee! 😊
I spent my early months in social care before meeting my adoptive parents at six months old 👶🏽. Those initial months were crucial for bonding, and I grew up loving and accepting my parents as if they were my biological ones.
It's important to note that many adoptees are not placed as infants; in fact, few are. Some come from broken homes and have been in care for a long time. This underscores the need for families to have adequate time to adjust and build strong relationships 🧑🧑🧒🧒 and highlights the significance of adoption leave, which employers should support not just as a legal requirement, but as a societal responsibility.
If you're considering adoption and would like to hear from an adoptee's perspective, feel free to reach out!
