I was meant to meet an old friend today.
We used to live very similar lives.
Long commutes. Long hours. Early starts that felt completely normal at the time.
This morning I caught myself describing 8.30am as a “late” start.
Years ago, I would already have been in the office, or close to it.
That difference was part of why we did not meet as planned.
Not the only reason. Just one small example of how differently our days are now shaped.
It made me notice how my relationship with time has shifted since moving out of corporate life.
There is more flexibility. More choice over how a day begins.
But that does not mean fewer constraints.
Self-employment still has its own quiet pressures.
Earning enough. Keeping momentum. Making sure flexibility does not turn into drift.
The structure is looser, but it still exists.
It just shows up in different places.
No big conclusion.
Just an observation about how quickly “normal” changes, and how differently time feels depending on who is holding the responsibility.
