I've been a bit quiet here recently, but it’s been anything but quiet behind the scenes!

From supporting clients through sensitive settlement agreements, disciplinary and grievance cases, onboarding several brilliant new businesses (all of whom are now up and running with ), and making sure everyone’s compliant with the April 2025 legislation changes – it’s been a busy time!

We've also been busy preparing to deliver sexual harassment training that goes beyond the legal minimum – helping businesses genuinely shift culture, not just tick boxes. And that’s just the highlights!

In the midst of all this, I’m thrilled to officially introduce Emma Corr to the team. She’s already sinking her teeth into the work, bringing her own calm energy and a sharp eye for detail. Emma’s been getting to know our wonderful clients and adding value from day one – we're definitely lucky to have her on board. ☺️

Now that we’re back into a bit more of a rhythm, I’ll be sharing more updates, insights and practical HR tips here again soon.

"I always do what HR says because it'll keep me out of prison."

This was said to me recently, and while it made me chuckle, it also got me thinking about how HR is often perceived. Sure, it's true that following good HR advice can keep you compliant with employment laws and steer clear of tribunals. But HR is about so much more than that.

HR isn’t just there to be the "fun police" 🙈🤪- it’s the secret ingredient to a thriving business.

✅ HR reduces costs

Effective people strategies reduce turnover, absenteeism, and disengagement, all of which have a big impact on your bottom line.

✅ HR supports growth

Whether it's hiring the right people, developing your leadership team, or retaining key players, HR is central to business success.

✅ HR helps shape culture

Great HR ensures your values aren’t just words on a website but are embedded in how your team works, communicates, and supports each other.

✅ HR creates happier workplaces

It’s not just about compliance, it’s about fostering a place where people want to work, where they feel valued, and where they’re motivated to go the extra mile for your business.

So yes, do what HR says if you want to avoid sticky legal situations. But also do it because HR adds value that can drive your business forward, build trust, and make life easier for everyone involved.

And if you’re still seeing HR as just a legal safety net, let’s have a chat about how I can help you see the bigger picture. Your people are the heart of your business - let’s make them your superpower. 🦸

This week, I had the pleasure of hosting my first webinar on the new sexual harassment legislation, where I shared practical insights with business owners and managers on staying compliant and creating safe, respectful workplaces. The engagement and feedback have been incredible – thank you to everyone who attended!

A recording of the webinar is also available, so drop me a DM if you'd like a copy. 😊

Last night I also enjoyed a fantastic evening connecting with some fabulous women at the Style Stories - Networking in the West Midlands event, hosted by . It's really a shame I was driving, because I absolutely wanted more than one of their delicious cocktails! A big thank you to , Lucy Talbot, and Tish Baden- Sidhu for organising. I can't wait for the next event!

On top of that, it was the usual lively rhythm of supporting my brilliant clients, tackling day-to-day HR challenges, and having some great conversations with potential clients about how they can nurture growth through their people.

And finally, this morning I had such an inspiring coaching session with the wonderful Louise Demetriou - lots of lightbulb moments about the sparkling future of Fox HR and the value I can provide to growing businesses. And just a bit about overcoming self-limiting beliefs! 🤪

Happy Friday, everyone!

"𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀!" 🤭😂

Said not by me, but by the inspirational Shalom Ijeoma Lloyd MBE, who I had the pleasure of listening to as part of an event run by the NatWest Entrepreneur Accelerator programme.

One of the standout moments of her talk was hearing her share her journey to success. Her key message? "Stay in your lane."

This means that for businesses to grow and thrive, it's essential to stay focused on what you’re trying to achieve, and only say 'yes' things that align with that vision. It's so easy to get distracted by new opportunities or trends, but true progress comes when you know your goals, stay true to your values, and concentrate your energy where it matters most. 🌟

Staying in your lane doesn’t mean avoiding growth - it means being intentional about it. By focusing on what you do best, you can grow stronger and make a real impact. 🚀

I left feeling so motivated by this message and excited to keep driving my own business forward in a way that aligns with my goals!

And that I can embrace my own nuttiness sometimes! 🤪

Today is World Mental Health Day, and this year’s theme is workplace mental health.

🚨 Important Update for Employers: Sexual Harassment Law Changes in 2024 🚨

From 26th October 2024, a change in sexual harassment legislation will require employers to proactively prevent sexual harassment in the workplace.

This means taking "reasonable steps" to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all employees.

Here are 3 key steps you can take to prepare:

➡️ Conduct a workplace risk assessment.
➡️ Update your anti-harassment policies, with clear reporting mechanisms.
➡️ Provide regular, tailored training for employees and managers.

Head over to October's blog for more information and practical tips on making sure you and your team are ready for these changes - https://www.fox-hr.co.uk/employment-law-update-act-now-to-prevent-sexual-harassment/

And if you'd like to have a quick chat about getting things sorted, give me a shout!

On Wednesday, I went to the annual employment law update at Higgs LLP, and there are some important changes coming that small businesses need to be aware of!

🔍 What’s changing soon?

A major change coming in October is the increased protections against sexual harassment in the workplace. Employers will have a clear duty to take 'reasonable steps' to prevent sexual harassment from happening, including from third parties, such as customers and suppliers.

🚨 What should small businesses do now?

▶️ Review your policies and procedures to ensure they’re up-to-date.

▶️ Provide regular anti-harassment training for all staff.

▶️ Create a safe environment where employees feel comfortable reporting concerns.

💡 On the horizon, we’re also seeing discussions around:

1️⃣ Making unfair dismissal claims a day-one right.

2️⃣ Tightening flexible working rules even more.

3️⃣ Increasing Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) to align with other statutory payments, such as maternity and paternity pay.

❓ Which of these changes would have the biggest impact on your business?

---

Now, on to some case law that really stood out: Parmar v Leicester City Council. 🤔

In this case, Mrs. Parmar, a British-Indian social worker, was subjected to a disciplinary investigation and eventually dismissed in 2021. The Employment Tribunal found that her treatment was racially discriminatory, especially when compared to her white colleagues, who were treated more leniently for similar conduct. The tribunal concluded that there was “no other credible explanation” for her harsher treatment besides racial bias. Despite this, the council defended its actions and even appealed the ruling, which was dismissed. It's a stark reminder of the importance of fairness and anti-discrimination measures in the workplace.

---

And finally, a big thank you to the wonderful team at Higgs LLP for putting on such a fantastic event! 🙌

It’s a fantastic opportunity to grow and scale my business, and I can’t wait to apply what I learn.

When I’m not sorting out HR challenges or translating the latest employment law changes into plain English, you’ll find me chasing after my toddler (who thinks he’s a world-class sprinter) or cheering on my eldest, who’s a superstar swimmer and budding rugby player. And when they’re finally asleep, I’m probably watching a period drama (or let’s be honest, Emily in Paris!🗼🥐) with a cup of tea… or a glass of wine, depending on the day! If you’ve got any TV recommendations, send them my way!

This month, I’ll be sharing practical advice on short service dismissals, a topic that often feels easy but can be tricky for small businesses. Stay tuned for tips and insights to keep you ahead of the game!
