The latest parliamentary economic findings are now live, offering an updated snapshot of the UK economy and the wider financial landscape. The House of Commons Library’s newly published briefing covers key indicators including GDP growth, inflation, interest rates, employment, public finances, trade and consumer confidence, giving businesses and individuals a clearer picture of the current environment. Published on 30 April 2026, the report highlights continued pressure points across inflation, borrowing and consumer sentiment, all of which can influence business planning and financial decision-making.

At Bytheway Accountants, we help clients make sense of developments like these and understand what they may mean in practical terms for tax planning, budgeting, cash flow and future business decisions.

If you would like support interpreting the latest figures and reviewing your own position, find out more at bythewayaccountants.co.uk.

If you run a café, restaurant, takeaway or other food business, you will know energy is one of those costs that never really switches off.

Fridges are running, lights are on, equipment is in use and the day can start early and finish late. That is why it helps to keep an eye on your contract and not leave it until the last minute.

A bit of forward planning can make the whole thing feel much less stressful and give you a better chance of choosing well.

The start of the new tax year on 6 April 2026 brings contentious changes with it, warns the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT).

The most controversial change is the introduction of Inheritance Tax (IHT) on family businesses and farms.

The government's Making Tax Digital for Income Tax programme requires most sole traders and landlords with income of more than £50,000 a year to keep digital records and make quarterly submissions to HMRC.

Over the next three tax years HMRC plans to bring 2.9 million self-assessment taxpayers into the programme, requiring them to use compatible software to keep digital records and submit quarterly updates and an annual return.

Most of the changes took effect on Monday 6 April, the start of the new tax year, though a few changes were in place from Wednesday 1 April.

This Saturday, Debbie Pejica, our amazing Chair at Headway Black Country, and Andrea Cloughley from BNI Eagle and a key supporter of our work will be jumping out of a plane at about 10,000ft to raise £10,000 for people living with brain injury.

They are not doing it for the thrill. They’re doing it so survivors can get the counselling, rehabilitation, and support they need to rebuild their lives after the unthinkable.

But they can’t do it alone—they need us.

If everyone reading this gave just a little, we could smash the target before their feet even hit the ground.

📅 The countdown is on: 4 days to make a difference.

About last Tuesday…

BNI Eagle hosted a visitors day with local business owners looking to collaborate, make new connections and explore how they can grow their business through networking. 💼

The morning started off with a tasty Full English breakfast provided by the fantastic staff at SOUTH STAFFORDSHIRE GOLF CLUB LIMITED(THE) followed by a meeting with purpose hosted by our President Matt Richards.

Pete Tarbuck delivered a great education session on how to give, receive, look after and thank members for your referral. This was followed by an awesome feature presentation delivered by Jayne Emery of Headway Black Country who holds our charity seat. Jayne delivered such a thought provoking presentation on the great work that is carried out by the team who provide support by those affected by an Acquired brain injury.

Thank you to all our local business owners who came along.

If you are keen to grow your business and want to expand your connections.

Come & join us - we meet every Tuesday 9.30-11.30am. DM for further details.
