📻 Part of the BBC's special focus on waste today, they'll be filming live from Crapper and Sons Landfill Ltd, reporting on the launch of the world's first fruit and vegetable growing dome powered by landfill.

🫛 Discover how the Sustain Wiltshire Community Interest Company will grow produce in the trial dome will to feed ten local families.

Once proven, up to 80% of the fresh fruit and vegetable needs of Royal Wooton Bassett could be met, if planning for an additional 100 domes is approved. 🥬

Today marks the unveiling of a radical new approach to food production. 🥬

In a world-first, landfill gas tapped from Crapper and Sons’ landfill site will be turned into heat, power and CO2, to create perfect year-round growing conditions within giant, positively pressured, inflated growing domes located on our Royal Wooton Bassett landfill site.

🥒 This is world-leading technology that's capable of transforming landfill sites into low carbon, affordable fruit and vegetable production hubs.

Three times the size of a standard tennis court, and twice the height of a London double decker bus, the first positively pressured growing dome will be trialled and tested over the coming year.

Using a mix of hydroponics, raised growing beds and plant containers, a broad selection of produce will be grown from the spring, ready to meet the year-round needs of ten local families. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

✅ Once perfected, we hope to gain permission for 100 such growing domes.

✅ These will provide affordable fruit and vegetables to meet 80% of the requirements of Royal Wootton Basset, Purton and Brinkworth, with future expansion planned to cover Malmesbury.

Rolled out globally, this technology has the potential to change the face of food production as we know it.
