How many logs does a household really use?

Most people either:
• Buy too little and panic-buy later
• Or buy cheap logs that don’t last

As a rough guide:
• Occasional fire use: small, regular deliveries
• Daily stove use: consistent, good-quality logs save money
• Winter-only buyers often spend more overall

Buying the right amount and the right quality avoids last-minute stress and wasted money.

Planning ahead always pays off.

We are always happy to give advice.

Kiln-dried, seasoned, “ready to burn”… what does it all actually mean?

Not all logs are created equal.

Kiln-dried logs:
✔️ Low moisture
✔️ Burn hotter and longer
✔️ Less smoke and mess
✔️ Better for your stove and chimney

Poorly seasoned or damp logs:
❌ Harder to light
❌ Burn quickly
❌ Produce more smoke
❌ Waste your money

If your fire never seems to last or your glass constantly blackens, the wood is usually the issue — not the stove.

Buying the right logs makes all the difference.

Why cheap logs often cost you more in the long run.

It’s tempting to grab the cheapest bag of logs you can find. but when it comes to firewood, cheap rarely means good value.

Here’s why:

High moisture = poor heat
Cheap logs are often not properly seasoned or kiln-dried. Wet wood burns cooler, produces less heat and goes through your stove much faster — meaning you need more of it.

More smoke, more mess
Wet or low-quality logs create excess smoke, soot and creosote. That means dirtier glass, more chimney build-up and more frequent (and costly) sweeping.

Shorter burn time
Lower-quality logs burn quickly and unevenly. Instead of a long, steady fire, you’re constantly topping up — using more logs than you expected.

Risk to your stove
Consistently burning wet wood can damage your stove and flue over time, shortening its lifespan and potentially invalidating warranties.

Proper kiln-dried logs burn hotter, longer and cleaner
You use fewer logs, get more heat, and protect your stove — which saves money over time.

So while cheap logs might look like a bargain at first glance, they often end up costing more in the long run.

Quality firewood isn’t a luxury — it’s the sensible choice.
