Chimney flues are constructed linear voids within the wall masonry which connect the fireplaces to the chimney stack. Renovation works need to avoid the position of the flues for structural fixtures. Sometimes flues can be reused as cable/pipe ducts within the wall. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) provides a non-destructive means of finding the flue locations. Further information on the NDT applications of GPR is available at www.geophysical.biz/gpr3.htm
