I suspect we are seeing a spike in people starting up their own business. As a small business owner I can obviously identify with that and, like others, I have learnt some lessons along the way which I am happy to share if it helps the newbies.
💡 Have a business plan - doesn't have to be swish and you don't need to share it but it will focus your mind on what you need to bring in (and when), to cover your costs.
💡 Get a great accountant who works 'with' you and is proactive.
💡 If you don't have the skills at the start you might need to budget to buy in some help or buy some training.
💡 Network - this is one of my best discoveries! There's lots of groups out there - find the one(s) that suit you and commit to it/them. They are usually very supportive, friendly and can be a source of business or referrals over time. But don't turn up and expect an order on your first visit (although, I confess this did happen to me!).
💡 Take advantage of all the free help and support events such as how to do your social media, business coaching, selling without sales, etc. Be like a sponge!
We all had to start somewhere! Any connections out there willing to share their top tips?
