Not every dead tree needs to disappear completely. 🌳
At Tall Oaks, this dead oak was reduced to a monolith rather than removed altogether. The aim? To retain valuable standing deadwood and give wildlife somewhere to shelter, roost and overwinter.
Dead trees can play an important part in a healthy ecosystem. Where conditions allow, retaining suitable deadwood is a practical way to support biodiversity without compromising the wider management of a site.
It’s a good example of how modern tree management is about more than simply removing a problem. With the right planning and access equipment, there can be room for a more considered approach.

Two CMCs. One very old castle tower. And a restoration project that needs access in all the right places.
