Wrexham Solar Thermal now Solar Thermal Innovation Wrexham Solar Thermal now Solar Thermal Innovation - new technology in the quest for net zero As with gas-combi hot water boilers this system has no tank.

Combined Solar Thermal Storage
Wrexham Solar Thermal is bringing new and innovative solar thermal technology to the marketplace through a new design, reducing the total cost of solar thermal energy, reducing carbon footprint of manufacture & installation of Combi Solar Thermal units. It operates directly off mains pressure. Hot water is stored within the collector on the roof in a series of double

walled glass vacuum tubes. The tubes act both as the collector and storage which greatly simplifies the whole system yet it remains compact - little bigger than a comparative collector. The compactness is achieved by storing water at a higher temperature and diluting down with cold water. With 10 tubes, the footprint of one unit is 2 square meters, and provides up to 120 litres of shower hot water. Wrexham Solar Thermal's Solar-Combi can operate either on its own or together with a hot water on demand system such as a gas combi boiler. When the water is above the required user temperature the water flows directly to the use, e.g. shower or tap. When the solar hot water temperature drops below a certain defined temperature the flow is diverted through the gas combi boiler which fires to top-up the water temperature. There are competing solar thermal technologies that claim to be solar-combi but if you read through you will find they also require a tank to be installed, increasing the cost and carbon footprint. They also require the use of an electric pump, there is no pump required in Wrexham Solar Thermal's Technology. The system has a unique overheating protection system, (patent pending) which is passive requiring no electrical supply or pump. A prototype is installed and operating and producing hot water throughout the year sicne 2012.

I had a very good meeting this morning with Wrexham Labour candite for the next election Andrew Ranger.

Came over as a very genuine person who cares about the environment.

Andrew was very impressed with the project and has offered us his help going forward if elected.

Look forward to working with him if successful.

Hi followers

We have now received confirmation of our success for Pat Pending and are excited with the data received from Wrexham University.
So it is now time to tell you all about how our system works

It is a evacuated tube system that heats the water inside the tubes ( no glycol or tank required ) and because it is a pressurized system, it delivers the heated water directly to source.

That could be a shower or to pre heat the incoming water to a boiler, therefore using less gas, oil or electric.

The heat is controlled by a PLC that operates a cooling system when required.

This system also allows the water to be circulated once a day to eliminate stagnation or bacteria

Because the system is pressurized, it can be fitted on a roof, wall or Frame at ground level.

It will reduce the gas bills for people with combi boilers and save the need to have to fit Air or Ground Source when making the decision to upgrade your boiler and also help with your carbon footprint.

At the moment it is government policy to penalize the boiler companies for not selling enough Air or Ground Source systems, but that is not fair to people who cannot afford these types of changes and would much prefer to replace their boiler if it goes wrong. Having said that, I believe they are reviewing this decision.

I think that's enough to digest for now, but in future posts we will show you diagrams of how the system works and compare it with the Solar Thermal technology that exists today.

We would just like to take this opportunity to thank The Welsh Government and Wrexham University for all the help they have given us to get this far., and you for following us

All the best Dave Thelwell

Despite Covid, our project's back up and running.
Along with my new colleague, Stuart Doggrell, we have created a new company called Solar Thermal Innovation and we are now working out of Wrexham Glyndwr University.

Since I last posted you, thanks to the hard work of our business mentor, Nigel Nicholl, we have received a Welsh Government grant to acquire an Audit for our IP.

This work has been carried out by Culverstons with great success, and we are now working in a joint effort between Wrexham AM, Leslie Griffiths and Wrexham MP, Sarah Atherton to secure funding to enable us to go for our IP.

This is perfect timing to coincide with COP 26 and will enable us to attract investors.

Please become part of our journey and let us know what your feelings are.

Looking forward to hearing from you all

Dave and Stuart

Yesterday I was brought to tears by a young lady who, with eloquence, took to task the most powerful man in the world , and warned us all of the dangers that are to come if we do not change our way of thinking.
That man beiing the President of The United States, who, full of boastful talk about his own acheivements, only seemed concerned with his remaining term in office.
I know from experience her frustration, as here at Wellpecs ( Wexham Solar Thermall ), we try to bring a new and unique form of solar thermal water heating unit to the world.
We as a small company, have developed, with the help of Glyndwr University and a great deal of our own money, a unit that will save both cost and energy, but our efforts have been met with the stone wall of enterprise.
We have approached our MP and AM, who, never missing a photo oppertunity, in turn have passed it on to business experts, who are more interested in patents and business plans than they are in saving the planet. We have even approached the protesters who have hit the news lately for help, only to be told it is not their rewmit.
We know it works, the University knows it works, please help us to find asomeone with the resources to bring this to fruition.

Regards and good luck for your future Dave Thelwell

Hi all you Wrexham Solar Thermal followers.

It's been a while since my last post, but you know they say Rome wasn't built in a day, well, I think it was quicker than what it has taken us to get this far with our project.

It has been due to all the hoops we are having to jump through to get this product reconised as a bonifide renewable energy candidate.

Having said that, we are now going in the right direction.

We have The Welsh Government and Buisness Wales fully on board, and with the continueing help from
Glyndwr University, we are now preparing to reach BSI Standards for the unit, which will allow us to apply for MCS accreditation, which then will allow us to be reconised by the RHI.

A lot of letters, we know. But once we have acheived this, we will be able to prove that what it says on the box, is what it does.

We will keep you informed as to our progress as when it happens.

Hello again

Everything is going well with the development. Brite water have helped us solve any issues we might have with legionella or any other nasty little bugs that may have entered our system without our permission, and now we have put that to bed, Worcester Bosh want to meet us again for further discussions.
Glydwr University are still working on improvements to our heat exchanger and our water transfer manifold between tubes, giving their students from Germany and France plenty of material towards their studies.
It won't be long now before many of you are bathing in the free hot water supplied by our system, hopefully creating new jobs in North Wales

Hello and wellcome to 2016 at Wrexham Solar Thermal

This year we are hoping to bring the unit to market with all the improvements we have made, thanks to the help of Glydwr University, on the heat exchanger and hot water manifold. The new improved version will soon be on test and we hope to have it working at one of the main business's on the Wrexham Industrial Estate by the Spring.
Our short term programme is to have at least six of these around the Wrexham Industial estate by early Summer and then if all goes well, will start producing them in larger numbers as the year goes on.

Anyone interested in coming to view the protortype we have working now, or would like to have more information, please email me on [email protected]

This week we have agreed a partnership with Glyndwr University and welcome another member to the team from Glydwr, Fatima, who will be formulating all our data in order to prove the capabilty of the unit.
David Sprake ( senior lecturer in renewable energy and sustainable technologies ) and Fatama have been down to unimaq to see the unit for themselves and are very impressed.
We are hoping to see at least half a dozen units out in the field by spring of 2016.
These we can also monitor and hopefully move into further production and create jobs after that.
Keep watching and letting us know you like what you see

Regards Dave Thelwell and Ron Waker( co directors )

Over the last couple of weeks we having been holding further talks with Glyddwr University and have now let them have a heat exchanger unit to work on for improvements. We are in close contact with Kim L Dimmick ( Business Development and Industrial Partnership Manager ), Reg Holmes ( Engineering ), Dr Olaf Niestroj ( Lecturer in Engineering ) and David Sprake ( Senior Lecturer in Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technoloies ) from the university, and hope this, along with further improvements to the manafold on the solar unit itself, will bring the product closer to market, allowing all you out there to benifit from totally free hot water.

If you like or are interested in what we are doing, let us know so we can continue to keep you informed in our progress. Further more, let your friends know.

Become friends of Wrexham Solar Thermal Ltd and help us to help the enviroment.
