Friends of Kingsgate Park

Friends of Kingsgate Park We work closely with Yate Town Council who owns the park to provide an open green space for the benefit of local people and wildlife. Accessible to all

We wish to maintain the original character of the park and provide a safe haven for all who use it. Kingsgate Park was formed in the 1960's as Yate was developing into a town. It was initially run by South Gloucestershire Council but Yate Town Council took over the management in 2003. The park is an excellent leisure area situated in central Yate. Hidden amongst the housing, it's perfectly possibl

e to drive past it without noticing it's there, but it's well worth exploring. The park has easy access for wheelchair users. The park boasts an array of facilities including a large playground which is split into three sections to provide entertainment for children of all ages. There is also a water play area with a 22 metre stream that is perfect for paddling on a hot summer day. The lake is home to swans, ducks and newts and is a great place to float model boats or the old park tradition of duck feeding. The eastern edge of the park is a dedicated nature reserve area. . The park plays an important part in the local community and throughout the year it hosts a variety of free events including an annual Easter Egg Hunt, the Yate Music Festival and a Carol Concert. The Friends of Kingsgate Park are extremely proud of our involvement with the park and work closely with Yate Town Council to ensure that it is a welcoming environment for everyone to enjoy. If you would like to find out more about the Friends of Kingsgate Park or to become a member, please contact us or join us for our next meeting.

At the recent Friends of Kingsgate Park AGM, Yate Town Council and the Friends of Kingsgate Park had the opportunity to thank two long-serving volunteers, Sue Swanborough and Judith Cameron, as they stepped down from their active committee roles and returned to general membership.

Sue and Judith have dedicated many years of service to supporting Kingsgate Park and helping the Friends group grow and thrive. Their commitment, hard work and enthusiasm have made a lasting difference to both the park and the local community.
As a token of our appreciation, they were each presented with a rose plant during the meeting.
We are delighted that both Sue and Judith will remain members of the Friends group, and we look forward to continuing to see them involved in the future.

We are very sad to be sharing the news that we have now been informed that the parks resident Cob has passed away.

We have been told he was collected after a call from a concerned visitor by the RSPCA and taken to a centre, where unfortunately he had to be put to sleep.

He had lived a long and happy life, returning to our park with his mate to give us the joy of so many broods of cygnets over the years. He had been struggling for a while with arthritis and we know his worsening condition had been concerning visitors to the park for some time. His mate remains on the lake with her four cygnets and we are sure she will be closely watched over by visitors and swan rescue over the season.

Thank you to all who reach out to us and everyone who helped our swan family at their time of need.
