Last week I spent time with a client I have worked with for several years and also a client who I met for the very first time. Both days were amazing and everyone I believe everyone benefited from the discussions that arose as I took the delegates through their DISC profile. Both groups were surprised by the depth we explored not only the individuals but also the business in general. We all shared a common language and felt safe in the environment where were were all equal and allowed to speak freely. Do you remember this? over lockdown what started out as fun and a way of keeping me busy became a weekly post which hundreds of people commented and enjoyed.

I have been a DISC practitioner for over 20 years, it is an amazing tool that looks at a persons work style behaviour, what motivates them and what doesn't! how they prefer to be spoken to and how they don't!

I have met 1000's of other people who use DISC to understand themselves, their colleagues, their workmates and even their partners.

In nearly every book I have read recently on Leadership and personal development there is always a chapter on Values - Why do you think that is?

Are values more important than skills?
Are values more important than Knowledge?
Are values more important than behaviour?

I would answer YES to all three of the above, however qualify this to say all of the above are important but can be trained relatively easily. We are continually developing our skills and knowledge both for personal and professional development. We can all learn to modify our behaviour, either as and when needed or on a more permanent basis if that behavioural trait is preventing us from reaching our goals.

BUT it is very difficult to "train" change our values because these feeling and thoughts are deep seated in us. Because of this if there is discord between an individuals values and those of the company they work for it is very likely that they will become dis engaged and their performance will ultimately suffer.

Its Friday - where has the week gone?
For those of you with kids it is the start of the holidays so good luck with that.
For those of you going on holiday I am very jealous and if I wasn't quite as large as I am, would be asking to sneak a ride in your suitcase!
For those that next week is just another week then be thankful we have survived the last few years and can look forward to a brighter future.
