Good to have joined with Good Organisation last week in Glasgow for this conference - some interesting thoughts to have brought away and some great examples of how community led tourism is working in Scotland and other places around the world.

A significant milestone last week with the launch of Community Tourism UK.

The announcement came at the close of two day conference in Glasgow, which brought together partners from across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to sign a joint Community Led Tourism declaration.

The network has been developing since conversations began at the Good Organisation (Social Ventures) CIC conference in York last summer, so it was fantastic to see it formally launched with so many collaborators and supporters.

We’re incredibly grateful to our colleagues at SCOTO Network, who not only organised the event in Glasgow, but have been central to this partnership since its inception.

The Collective Sharehouse has been a great space to deliver our Community Grant workshops, alongside York Travellers Trust, 30 Clarence Street Hub, and at York DWP.

Thanks to York CVS for the connection to the Collective Sharehouse via their emails, as well as Better Connect for their overarching support and coordination through the Community Grants programme.

Looking with hope towards the new financial year and new opportunities soon.

For the month of February we have had CJ and Harry from Coterminous CIC attending our tuesday sessions. They have been sharing advice and information about mindful budgeting and shopping, demonstrating how small, manageable adjustments can be made to stretch funds that little bit further.

Four individuals have signed up directly with Coterminous; a further twelve individuals received support around budgeting and spending. Harry and CJ introduced many of our clients to a range of really useful money-saving apps whilst also providing general advice on batch cooking, shopping times and avoiding marketing tricks.

Coterminous are hoping to find some additional funding so that they can help more individuals in our ward. A real highlight of this programme has been the cross community support which has been built, deepening connections and linking up support systems for those who need it in the area. Harry and CJ are hoping to return to the Collective Sharehouse at a later date to provide workshops and further advice for those who would like it.

"Listen and Learn - Improving the way that Universal Credit works" is a report just published by Changing Realities and Resolution Foundation. Lisa, one of our Rise2Thrive participants with CJ, has been a key part of that research work.

As she met to review the work with ourselves recently, Lisa proudly spoke of her work on this and thanked CJ for the push to go beyond her comfort zones. Something that she took on board and helped provide to focus to get involved.

This extract comes from the report and mentions Lisa by name:

'April 2026 will mark the end of a thirteen-year overhaul of
the working-age social security system, with UC (finally)
fully replacing the six legacy benefits from that point on.
But although this milestone represents the end of UC’s
implementation phase, it cannot mean the end of its
development as a benefit. And that is why we give the last word
in this report to Lisa from Changing Realities:

Thank you Joanna on your work with T/K. This is what they shared today about their experience of support:

I have found today just doable i have improved in many ways in confidence and a sense of well being i was doing english level 1 functional skills a passed and requested to do level 2 it is epic to be learning at the same place as my father. I will hope to progress futher. I have found that I can do any thing. The experience has been like an adventure it is now possible to say it can done with honour. I am finding the experience worth while as i feel like epic more in control and it has been thrilling and as well as entertaining I would like to do more courses depending on time restrictions.

A long day today for CJ with an early start to London. Excellent workshop organised by The Rank Foundation where Duro Oye from 20/20 Levels shared his experiences on Corporate Partnerships and the value and importance of diverse funding for the work that we do.

Hopefully he gets home sometime this evening and is bright eyed tomorrow for the next workshop on The Change We Live, also from the Rank Foundation.
