TwoCan Mentor

TwoCan Mentor Mentorship that bridges the gap between farming & business.

30/05/2026

Before every TwoCan Mentor cohort begins, participants come together for an in-person Fundamentals of Mentoring training day.

In this video, Kate Russell, Managing Director at Tellus Capital, shares her experience from the day — including a session focused on listening skills and why effective listening is such an important part of leadership, communication and mentoring.

She also speaks about the value of networking with people from surrounding industries and making connections outside of your usual professional circles.

The training day is designed to give both mentors and mentees a shared framework before the programme begins, helping everyone feel prepared, supported and ready to get the most from the experience.

At TwoCan Mentor, mentoring is never just about the sessions themselves. It’s about creating space for learning, reflection, professional development and meaningful connection.

Applications are now open for the October cohort.

When Mark Campbell joined the TwoCan Mentor pilot programme as a mentee, he wasn’t necessarily looking for someone to give him all the answers.

What he found was clarity, confidence and the space to properly invest in himself.

Mark, who works at AHDB as a Knowledge Exchange Manager – AgriLeader, speaks in this video about how mentoring helped stretch his thinking, challenge him outside of his comfort zone and fit around an already busy working life.

One thing that stood out to him was the matching process — how carefully people are paired to create mentoring relationships that genuinely work.

As Mark says, “magic always happens when you stretch outside of your comfort zone.”

At TwoCan Mentor, the programme is designed to fit into real life:
✔️ One hour per month
✔️ Fully supported mentoring
✔️ Whole-person matching process
✔️ Structured professional development

If you’ve been thinking about mentoring but keep putting yourself last, this might be your sign to start investing in your own development.

Real mentoring conversations create real perspective.

In this case study, mentee Beth shares how mentoring helped her challenge her thinking, build confidence in the way she communicates and gain perspective outside of her day-to-day working environment.

For mentor John, the experience was equally valuable - an opportunity to give something back, share his experience and support someone else’s development.

One of the things we hear most often at TwoCan Mentor is that mentoring is never a one-way process. The best mentoring relationships create learning, reflection and growth for both people involved.

Our programme is built around fully supported mentoring and a whole-person matching process, designed to create meaningful mentoring relationships that actually work.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, carrying big decisions alone or looking for fresh perspective in your career, applications are now open for the October cohort.

Food and farming is an industry full of expertise, resilience and responsibility.

But many people are carrying huge decisions largely on their own.

Financial pressure. Team leadership. Environmental responsibility. Career progression. Business decisions.

And often without the space to properly step back and think.

That’s where mentoring can make a real difference.

At TwoCan Mentor, the programme is designed to provide structured professional development through fully supported mentoring, helping people build confidence in their judgement, gain perspective outside their sector and develop stronger leadership and decision-making skills.

As Natalie Ingman from Dugdale Nutrition shared:
“Having a TwoCan mentor gave me space to reflect and prepare for a big career move… helping me see things differently and navigate change with confidence.”

If you’re working in food and farming and looking for a sounding board outside your day-to-day environment, registrations for the October cohort are now open.

Meet Lily Procter, Head Nurse at Vets for Pets Harrogate and a mentee on the latest veterinary cohort at Twocan Mentor.

After almost a decade working in the veterinary industry and several years within her current practice, Lily joined the programme looking to continue developing professionally and gain a broader understanding of the industry.

One of the challenges many experienced professionals face is becoming the most senior person in the room.

When that happens, it can become harder to find space for your own development, perspective and progression.

That’s what mentoring can provide.

For Lily, the goal is not only to continue growing herself, but also to become a better mentor and leader to the more junior members of her team.

Because strong leadership and professional development in veterinary practice goes beyond clinical skill alone.

It’s about communication, confidence, decision-making and understanding people too.

If you’re looking to invest in your own professional development within the veterinary industry, registrations for the October cohort are now open.

The biggest challenges facing vets today are not always clinical.

Leadership. Decision-making. Career progression. Team management. Managing pressure and preventing burnout.

Yet many veterinary professionals receive extensive clinical CPD while having limited structured development in the leadership and people skills that come with career progression.

Because moving into leadership, managing teams, navigating difficult decisions and building confidence in your judgement are skills too.

At TwoCan Mentor, mentoring is designed as structured professional development.

A six-month programme built around your goals, combining fully supported mentoring, a Fundamentals of Mentoring training day, lunch & learn sessions, and access to the wider TwoCan community.

It is designed to help veterinary professionals develop stronger leadership, clearer thinking, better communication and greater confidence in decision-making - alongside clinical expertise, not instead of it.

If you’re a vet thinking about your next step, or looking for meaningful professional development, register your interest for the October cohort.

Or ask your employer about including TwoCan Mentor in your development conversations.

October cohort begins October 7th.

Meet Jack Cullen, a mentee on the latest TwoCan Mentor cohort and a member of Lincolnshire Young Farmers.

Like a lot of people early in their career, Jack doesn’t feel like he has everything mapped out yet - and that’s exactly why he joined the programme.

He wanted someone he could lean on, ask questions to, and help point him in the right direction as he works out what he wants long term.

That’s one of the biggest misconceptions around mentoring: people think you need to know exactly what you want before you start.

Most people don’t.

Sometimes mentoring is simply having the space to talk things through with someone outside your day-to-day - someone with experience, perspective, and no agenda.

Because figuring things out is part of the process too.

Liz joined TwoCan feeling a bit lost in her career direction.

She had experience across the industry - from poultry to pigs to sheep and a Masters in Agricultural Education. But like a lot of people, she’d reached a point where she wasn’t sure what the next step looked like.

She was matched with Lewis, a mentor working in organic pig farming, conservation and farm education.

“I honestly don’t know how they matched us so well.”

Over six months, the conversations gave her space to think things through properly.

By the end of the programme, Liz described it as being “brought back to the real her.”

She’s now started a new role and feels confident in where her career is heading.

If you’ve been feeling unsure, stuck, or like you’ve lost direction a bit - this is exactly where mentoring can help.

Applications for our October cohorts are now open.

People don’t usually join our mentoring programme because things are going badly.

Often, it’s the opposite.

They’ve had a promotion
They’re about to make a career change
They want to continue their professional development

What we consistently see over six months is a shift in confidence.

And that confidence leads to real outcomes:
– Promotions, Career moves, Decisions that have been sitting there for months finally being made, Improvement leading people

“It’s given our participants a broader perspective and helped them realise they are good at what they do, they do deserve to be where they are and they are valued.” Elaine McGladdery - Learning & Development Business Partner, AHDB.

That’s the difference mentoring makes.

If you’re ready for more confidence in your career, October cohorts are now open (Food & Farming + Veterinary).

Enquire or register your interest.

Meet Helen Wyman, founder of TwoCan Mentor.

TwoCan started in food and farming - because that’s where Helen’s career began.

But the idea came from Helen's lived experiences.

Throughout her career, the mentors she had met along the way made a real difference.

Which led her to complete a Nuffield Farming Scholarship in 2022, focused on mentoring, TwoCan was built using those learnings.

Today, Twocan Mentor is a fully supported mentoring programme designed around people.

Mentors and mentees come from different backgrounds, sectors and stages of their careers - matched through a whole-person process.

Each cohort starts with an in-person training day, because personal development sits at the core of what we do.

From there, it’s about creating the space for the conversations that actually move things forward.

If you’ve been thinking about mentoring, October cohorts are now open.
