The National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA) is the lead agency in water supply and sewerage collection, treatment and disposal operating currently under the Ministry of Works, Public Utilities, Physical Planning and Environment. Established in 1990 under an Act of Parliament (No.25.1990), NAWASA holds responsibility for the management of water and sewerage services in the three main islands

of the state Grenada. Its predecessor organization the Central Water Commission had operated under the provisions of the Water Supply Act 1969( Act No 23 of 1969). THe other principal legislative instruments governing the Authority's operations are:

a. National Water and Sewerage Authority Regulations, 1993
c. National Water and Sewerage Authority Water Services Regulations, 1993

It has been estimated that 97% of the population had access to improved water supply in 2009. Sewerage services are provided to about 1700 customers in Central and Southern Grenada. NAWASA is a Statutory Authority but is expected to gradually take the form of a corporate entity where the Board of nine (9) Directors will provide clear direction and leadership on matters relating to economic efficiency and social effectivenedss objectives. The Authority is divided into organizational departments/units as follows:

1. Appointment and placement of staff
b. Employment compensation and benefits
c. Training and Staff development
d. Industrial relations and labor law

2. Finance
a. Accounting-accounts receivables, accounts payables, purchasing and stores inventory
b. Customer services which deals with receipt, management and solution of customer problems. Commercial Unit- deal with billing including meter readings, asset protection and financial management/customer from customers' accounts

3. Engineering Department

Planning and Development
a. Planning, design and construction of all capital works
b. Land Surveying/mapping/Geographical Intermission Systems (GIS) of the Authority's infrastructure
c. Water Resources-data collection and monitoring of selected raw water source

Production and Quality
a. The production of water from all sources of supply (surface and groundwater)
b. The operation and maintenance of the two municipal wastewater systems (Grand Anse and St. George town)
c. Pump/electromechanical support
d. Quality control/laboratory
e. Ground Maintenanc Staff

Transmission and Distribution
a. Operation and Maintenance of the transmission and distribution network
b. water truck delivery
c. Leak detection
d. Task Force (after hours response)
e. Masonry activity
f. Meter Installation, testing and repair

Garage Unit
a. Maintenance of vehicle and equipment fleet
b. Welding

4. Information System
a. Management of information within NAWASA to improve performance and operational efficiency
b. Database management to increase the commercial performance and organization efficiency

5. Communication
a. Identification of Public Relation & Communication opportunities and challenges and recommendation of action. b. Management and implementation of approved approaches and policies- internally and externally

NAWASA has a staff compliment of 230 employees which consist of both permanent and contracted workers.

🚧 CARENAGE WORKS CONTINUE | UKCIF PROJECT

Work continues as part of the Southern St. George Water Supply Expansion Project, funded by the United Kingdom Caribbean Infrastructure Fund (UKCIF).

On Sunday, August 30, 2026, works will continue along the Carenage from 1:00 p.m. to midnight, as the project team advances ongoing water line installation.

Motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to take note of the extended work period, anticipate delays and exercise caution when travelling through the area.

We’re making progress as we work to strengthen and expand the water supply infrastructure serving Southern St. George.

PUBLIC NOTICE | ROAD WORKS RESCHEDULED

The National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA) advises motorists and the general public that the lateral connection works scheduled for today, Saturday, August 29, 2026, along the Beaulieu Main Road were not undertaken due to circumstances beyond our control.

The works have been rescheduled to Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The works will involve the use of a tractor to facilitate cutting along sections of the roadway. Motorists should therefore anticipate traffic delays while work is in progress.

Persons travelling along the Beaulieu Main Road are asked to exercise caution, follow the directions of traffic personnel and, where possible, consider alternative routes to minimize delays.

NAWASA apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the change and thanks the public for its patience, understanding and cooperation.

PLANNED WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION | SUNDAY, AUGUST 30

NAWASA advises consumers from Concord through to the entire Town of St. George of a planned water supply interruption on Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The interruption is necessary to facilitate repairs to a broken water main in Cherry Hill.

Consumers are encouraged to store an adequate supply of water in advance for use during the interruption.

We’re excited as Grenada prepares to welcome the region for the 35th Annual Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA) Conference & Exhibition, from October 12–16, 2026.

On Tuesday, August 25, the media had the opportunity to engage with the Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA) team and Prime Minister Hon. Dickon Mitchell, Host Minister for the Conference, as we officially launched this major regional event.

Customers served by the Fountain Water System in St. Mark, are advised that the current interruption in their water supply is due to siltation at the dam.

NAWASA’s team is working to address the situation, and restoration is anticipated by 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Affected customers are encouraged to manage their stored water supply carefully until service is restored.

Please note that while the network is expected to be reopened by 6:00 p.m., consumers in elevated areas may experience an additional delay of up to two hours as the distribution system recharges and pressure gradually returns.

The outlook has changed, but the message remains the same: stay prepared.

The Grenada Meteorological Service has shared NOAA’s revised outlook for the remainder of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season, which now indicates a 75% probability of below-normal activity, with 7–13 named storms, 2–6 hurricanes and up to 2 major hurricanes forecast.

A below-normal forecast does not mean there is no risk. It only takes one storm or major rainfall event to significantly affect water sources and infrastructure.

As we move through the hurricane season, households are encouraged to remain prepared, maintain an adequate supply of safely stored water and continue monitoring official weather information.

Below normal does not mean no threat.
