Once again, we remind you to subscribe to our new group Gemti Guitar Workshop - ex-Khuros. This one is not going to be active at all pretty soon.

Over there, we have announced a Black Friday Sale: 25% off on 25 gain pedals and also 2+1 on those select pedals. Head over to the new group for details.

P.S.: btw, this workhorse (set-neck, bone nut, all that jazz) is for sale for a laughable 540 lari.

Hi! A quick reminder. We have moved to Gemti Guitar Workshop - ex-Khuros.
Please contact us there (and, of course, subscribe). We will be able to reply more promptly.
And if, for some reason, you are not receiving a reply (like Nika, who we hope is reading this) - check your settings, you may have blocked any messages from business accounts.
If it still doesn't help - try our phone number (but please use a text if possible: WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS - anything is more convenient than a phone call).

Gamarjoba! We kindly ask all the followers or anyone interested in our services to subscribe to Gemti Guitar Workshop - ex-Khuros instead of this page. Why? What’s wrong with this group? Why a new name? We will address it in this post.

(This is a LONG story. You are welcome to simply go to the link above and subscribe to keep in touch with us. This account will soon shut down.)

Who are we?
We are an experienced team of three luthiers: Dimitri, Mikhail and Petr. All of us left Russia in the last two and a half years, for the reasons that should be fairly obvious (feel free to ask in person, if you must).

We do almost any work with guitars and basses, acoustic or electric (or any stringed instrument – if our expertise allows). The only thing we don’t currently do is a full repaint (with an exception for oil finish), but we can give you advice on what to do and who to contact for that job. Also, we fix some audio electronics (amps, pedals, etc.), but it is not our main area of expertise. We also sell some instruments and musical equipment, including some of our clients’ on commission.

What are our values?
It sounds cheesy, but we aim for 100% customer satisfaction. You pay only after checking the instrument and if you're happy with the work. If not – we deal with whatever the problem might be until you are satisfied. That is why we offer you to take as much time to check the instrument in workshop to see if you are happy with everything. Also, there is a guarantee on our work – if anything goes wrong, and it is our fault (does not happen too often, but we are human), it is up to us to fix it, free of charge. Besides, something may come up when you play at home or somewhere else, which you haven’t noticed immediately – this of course is also can be dealt with free of charge.

Every instrument and every client deserve equal treatment. The same standards we have for a $6000 Gibson will be applied to a 300 lari Harley Benton. That said, we realize that sometimes expensive procedures are just not reasonable for a cheap instrument, and we advise you on what is best within your budget, and do our best to describe clearly what benefits a particular service will bring.

We know our limitations and act accordingly. Our craft is not always an exact science, and we don’t pretend to know everything. When we are not sure what to do with your instrument and whether we can do it, we will say so. We will then probably ask you for some time to think about it, consult our colleagues and come up with a possible solution or two.

Once we take an instrument off you, it becomes our responsibility to keep it safe and not to do anything to reduce its value, or hamper its functions. If, God forbid, something were to happen to your guitar or bass in our workshop, we are solely responsible for bringing it back into an original state or agree to some form of compensation, if it’s, for example, a nasty scratch that was not there when you came to us.

We do our best to stick to the deadlines. It is not always possible with such a small team. For instance, if someone gets sick, it’s likely to cause some delays. But we do our best to both do the job on time and keep you informed on the progress.

Our business is legal. We are all registered as individual entrepreneurs and pay taxes.

Why are we talking about the values?
In the beginning, Khuros Workshop was, for the most part, a one-man show. Some of you may remember its founder Andrey, a guy with a bushy beard. An easy way of describing him is that he did not share most of our values.

Early last year, Andrey simply disappeared. No-one could contact him for a few days. The two of us, current Gemti luthiers, found ourselves in a bit of a situation. We were sharing the space with Andrey in Sololaki. Clients started showing up for their guitars that were, at best, not ready. Some of the instruments have been at the workshop for months. As we later understood, Andrey did not make an effort or have a plan to even attempt fixing them. Facing the tasks he was not up to, Andrey decided to flee, borrowing money of clients and colleagues beforehand. We were left with a bunch of instruments that someone had to fix.

At this point, we started using the Khuros brand, although we had limited affiliation to it. Within a few weeks, we have managed to satisfy all the clients that have fallen victim to Andrey’s incompetence and dishonesty. But it became clear to us that it is better to change the name to have a clear break from the past, with its lack of professionalism, integrity, and, often, common sense.

Besides, we need to sort out the accounts on various social networks. And all we had is limited access to this page, which includes no right to change the name. Importantly, although Andrey did not appear to be using his Facebook account, there is every chance that this page will be shut down at any time – we have no control over it.

Why did we not change the name for the whole year?
To start with, the different situations of the people involved meant that we were not sure if there will be any workshop to speak of. So the renaming could have been pointless. Once the decision was to continue running a business, everyone got busy: equipping an old workshop to a higher standard, later looking for a new place and building our current workshop in Chugureti, and most of the time – working with the guitars. The new name and setting up social media accounts were low on the list of priorities. But it needed to be done, so better late than never.

What changes now?
From how things were for the last year or so – nothing changes. All the guarantees on our work remain valid. All your equipment that was left with us on commission, we are still responsible for. The terms and conditions of our service have not changed (except for some minor price changes, which happen all the time).

But we also have a few words to say to the unlucky Khuros Workshop customers, who were unsatisfied with Andrey’s services provided before our team took over in spring 2023. Firstly, accept our apologies on behalf of the luthier community. Andrey’s level of work was constantly below-par and often unacceptable, while the prices were suggesting a high-standard professional approach to your instruments. That deeply saddens us, and we empathize with you. Hope you will get a chance to experience a different service which Gemti team provides. As we described above, things are being done very differently now.

We plan to manage the new group better, adding some useful and interesting guitar-related content, as well as updating you on the stuff we have for sale. There is also a plan to eventually start developing other social media.

This page will be maintained for a couple of months to make sure you get a chance to subscribe to the new one. Then it will probably just be abandoned, because we do not have a permission to close the account.

How to find us?
Our workshop is located near Marjanishvili metro station, at Davit Aghmashenebeli Avenue, 55. It’s at the corner with Kyiv Street. There is a stairway to a basement to the left of a wedding salon. Go downstairs and turn right. Our white door is at the end of the corridor.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/PFhNQBt6cS2KHEP5A
We work every day, except for Saturdays, 2 to 9 pm. But we kindly ask you to tell us in advance what time you plan to visit – this helps us regulate workload and avoid a situation when a few people wait to have our attention.

Best regards,
Gemti team

Amp for sale:
Fender Stage Lead (c. 1985) - 1100 GEL

100-watt transistor amplifier. But, as with many older amps, the sound has the qualities that may make you think it's a tube amp. Plus the higher reliability than you would get with the valves. Spring reverb. Effects loop.

Some wear and tear, as you would expect with a 40-year old amp, but works perfectly. Comes with a 110V-to-220V adapter.

P.S.: we are still selling the Boss Katana 50 Mk.II for 950 GEL.

A bass guitar for sale. And a few words on why we are sometimes selling used instruments for more than similar ones cost brand new (spoiler alert - there is a reason).

FOR SALE: Ibanez Gio - 900 GEL.
It's an older version of a GSR200. As you see, it has a PJ pickup configuration - you get the best of the Precision and Jazz Bass styles.
A good choice for a first bass or a good back-up (even a second gig bass with alternate tuning).
Levelled frets, fixed electronics (including fully functional shield), new strings with ideal set-up.

On the face of it, looks expensive for a basic bass, right? But if you want to turn a 300-700 lari used bass (Squire, Ibanez, Yamaha, Gretsch, etc) into a good instrument, you will probably be spending 300-500 on getting it to a good condition (if not more, if you are not choosing carefully). So, it will work out at roughly the same 900 lari. In fact, that's what we have already done, so you don't have too - just come and pick it up.

If you are on a tight budget (and we get that most people are!), another option is to get a new bass (or a guitar) of a brand you trust. For the sort of instrument that this Gio is, you are looking at around 600 lari, if you are prepared to wait, or 800-900 in the shops. All the essentials - frets, electronics, functional truss-rod - should be fine when it's brand new. And, yes, the set-up will most likely be suboptimal, and not everyone has the skill or tools to get it right (adjusting the intonation is fairly straightforward, but the sticking point is often filing the nut). So, we are looking, really, for another 150-200 lari for a set-up and a fresh set of strings. If you really value having a scratch-free instrument, and can wait for it to get delivered - yes, you may get a slightly better deal. Or can you...?

The problems are likely to start after a few months, or maybe one or two years. The way that most guitars (including the basses) are made, unfortunately, you are likely to have problems with frets. The wood shrinks and expands with the changes of climate, and frets do not - they move unevenly - hence the fret buzz and maybe even some dead notes. Some cheaper instruments will also give you other kinds of pain, like loose jack sockets or the saddles that just keep giving you string buzz, whatever you do. On some very cheap guitars/basses, you can come across soldering that just starts falling apart... With all of these problems, just how much an instrument ends up costing you is a lottery.

For the reference, this Gio bass was not too bad: it needed fixing the shielding (some conductive layer was there, but not interconnected, not working as a result), fret levelling (naturally, some frets were sticking out - they just don't glue them properly, not on the cheaper guitars), a shim to adjust the neck angle (could not achieve low enough action with the position of the bridge) and a full set-up. These procedures cost 450 lari. And I promise you that this was not an instrument in the worst of conditions (could even play it: with some buzz, hum and high action). But right now we are happy to guarantee that it will serve you well for a few years (unless you play 15 hours a day and just wear the frets down).

So, if you are not concerned about some scratches, and want an instrument that plays well, we can sell you some gear that is gig-ready. Or arrange with the owner of the guitar you want to buy to bring it to us for diagnostic: we can tell you what (if anything) is wrong with an instrument and how much it would cost to fix it - then you can decide whether to buy it. Also, we are always happy to take your instruments, get it into working order, and sell them for a small commission - contact us for details.

Gamarjoba! It has been a long time since we made a post with the additions to the Pedal Library – busy with your guitars and basses. But it’s time for a May sale: 10% off for a single pedal*, 20% off if you buy two pedals, and 30% off if you take three or more.

We have been making discounts for regular customers, but decided that – why not – let’s give everyone a chance to grab some pedals for a good price. Offer is valid for 10 days or while the stock lasts.

*One important condition. Around 20% of the pedals do not belong to us: we are selling them for a small commission. Cannot make this type of discount on those (it would mean that we pay the seller out of our own pockets). But 5%, 10% and 15% respectively for one, two or three pedals would just about work. You can distinguish the commission pedals in the workshop by the red price tags (or, of course, just ask).

Below are some of the additions with their regular prices, without the discount. Sorry, these are not all the recent ones (and, indeed, some we have had for a while), but we want to get round to introducing you to all of them. The full list is currently not up-to-date, so feel free to ask any “do you have this” questions in the comments or DM. With over 120 pedals, we should be able to satisfy most guitarists’ (and bassists’) needs.

Boss TR-2 – a very solid tremolo pedal (in every sense of the word solid). You can dial in many classic sounds with regular rate and depth k***s, plus a wave shape control (which is absent even on some better tremolos). 220 GEL.

Electro-Harmonix Pocket Metal M**f – a must-have (or at least a must-try) for shredders. Scoop control gives you basic control over your midrange. Versatile: can work as a searing fuzz, a dirty boost, or anything in between. 200 GEL.

Ibanez DE7 Delay/Echo – already discontinued but still popular delay. Iconic Push-Lok k***s help you to keep your settings in place. Two distinct modes: warm echo and digital delay are both worth trying out, even if you have a preference. Delay time up to 2.6 seconds. 280 GEL.

Line 6 M5 Stompbox Modeler. Remember those 4-button Line 6 pedals, including the popular green DL4 Delay? M5 is all 5 of them (delay, reverb, modulation, distortion and filter) in one unit – over 100 effects. A great addition to the pedalboard for that “once in a while” effect. 450 GEL.

Tech 21 MIDI Mouse – a 2- button controller for anything MIDI. Including M5 (you can flick through its 24 presets). Comes with a MIDI cable. 280 GEL.

MXR M102 Dyna Comp – maybe the most popular compressor ever. The controls are simple, but allow for quite a bit of adjustability. Good for clean sound or “beefing-up” your overdriven tone. 260 GEL.

Kruser Custom Liverpool – a Vox AC amp sound in a pedal. Made in Tbilisi; a copy of Tech 21 Liverpool, which costs $150 or more. It gives good dynamics: clean tones when you play soft and dirt ones when you play hard. Gives you different flavors of Vox amps with the character k**b. 320 GEL.

Kruser Custom Plummer – a copy of EarthQuaker Devices Plumes. Often compared to Tube Screamer, this overdrive has three distinct modes: 1 – symmetrical LED clipping (more crunch and compression), 2 – wide open OpAmp drive with no clipping (clean boost), and 3 – asymmetrical silicon diode clipping (more transparent, similar to Klon). 260 GEL.

Kruser Custom Woolly Mammoth – a copy of a famous Zvex fuzz pedal. Originally designed for bass, it became a favourite among the guitarists. Features a gentle gate for silencing your instrument between notes or phrases. 230 GEL.

TC Electronic Hall Of Fame – many excellent reverb sounds, which are easy to dial-in. 10 factory presets to select from. Plus a lot more with Tone Print technology allows you to load the settings in a few seconds using your smartphone. Hall of Fame does not really need much of an introduction – it is one of the best and most popular reverbs around. 350 GEL.

Come and check them out. We are located at Agmashenebeli Avenue, 55, corner with Kiev Street.

We are operating a model, where you can set the price you want to get, we get the guitar in the working order and sell for a small commission (plus the price of the works that need to be done to get the instrument up to standard).

Merry Christmas to those of you who are celebrating! Let's try and keep it short.

We are running a 3+1 sale on pedals for the last few days of the year. Buy three, get the fourth for free - the bonus one has to be equal price or cheaper than the others. This gives you up to 25% discount (and leaves us with more or less no profit, but with some cash to celebrate the New Year).

Alternatively, if you only need one or two pedals, 10% discount on all of them. As ever, there is a little room for further negotiation.

There is over 120 pedals in our store. The list and prices will be in the description.

Plus, we still have guitars, amps and even some less guitar related stuff, like a DJ controller, MIDI keyboard or drum pads. No universal discount on those, but we can try to give you a good price, if you ask.
