📏How do accurate measurement systems support economic growth and industrial competitiveness?

Uzbekistan is advancing an important reform of its national quality infrastructure system to strengthen competitiveness, industrial development, improve product quality, align with international standards and support long-term economic growth. Through this project, PMCG is preparing an evidence-based policy brief that will help shape the future development of the country’s metrology and quality infrastructure system.

The initiative will assess institutional needs, sustainable financing models, and international best practices to support a stronger, more modern, and globally aligned metrology system in Uzbekistan.

Funded by Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt PTB, the project aims to support industrial modernization, trade competitiveness, and long-term economic development across the country.

Access to finance can shape whether an idea stays an idea or becomes a real impact.

At the second edition of the Business Talks Series | Finance Roundtable Talk, participants of the Greennovation Acceleration Program had the opportunity to engage directly with leading financial institutions and explore what financing opportunities for green and innovative businesses actually look like in practice.

Instead of a traditional panel, this session adopted an open roundtable format, making conversations more honest, practical, and interactive, from discussing green financial products to understanding the real challenges startups and MSMEs face in accessing funding.

Green Financial Products & Services were presented by:

• Nino Tavadze — Senior Green and Climate Finance Portfolio Manager, Bank of Georgia

• Ketevan Michinashvili — MSME Director / Marjanishvili & Central MSME, TBC Bank

• Davit Metreveli — MSME Department Coordinator, Tera Bank

• Irina Kikvadze — Energy Efficiency Expert, ProCredit Bank

• Ana Getsadze — Coordinator for the Management of Green and Other Targeted Resources, Crystal

The session created space not only to present financial tools, but to build direct connections between financial institutions and startups working on sustainable and innovative solutions.

Because innovation needs more than good ideas, it needs access, opportunity, and the right support systems to grow.

On May 9, PMCG proudly joins the European community in celebrating Europe Day – a symbol of unity, peace, and shared values. Georgia’s history has been closely intertwined with Europe for centuries. Our cultural, intellectual, and political ties reflect a deep-rooted European identity that continues to guide our path forward. Today, a united and strong Europe is more important than ever as a guarantor of peace, stability, and prosperity.

We also take pride in Georgia’s contribution to the idea of a united Europe and honor the legacy of Michel Mouskhely (Mikheil Muskhelishvili), a Georgian-born jurist and European federalist, who was among the early thinkers shaping the vision of European integration. In the aftermath of World War II, he co-authored a draft European federal constitution and actively promoted federalist ideas that influenced the formation of what would later become the European Union. His work, alongside that of other European visionaries, helped lay the intellectual foundations for a peaceful and united Europe based on cooperation, the rule of law, and shared values. It is a reminder that Georgia’s thinkers have long been part of the conversation shaping Europe’s future.

Europe Day is not only a reflection on past achievements, but also a reminder of the shared future we are building together. On this occasion, as we celebrate freedom, equality, solidarity, democracy, and respect for human dignity – these principles continue to inspire our work for years to come.

At PMCG, we remain dedicated to supporting Georgia’s European aspirations, and we reaffirm our commitment to a free, prosperous, and cohesive Europe in which Georgia plays a full and active role.

Happy Europe Day!

đź’ˇ How can development finance unlock sustainable investment opportunities in Egypt?

On 8 April 2026, PMCG organised an information session in Cairo focused on leveraging the European Fund for Sustainable Development Plus (EFSD+) to accelerate sustainable development and investment mobilisation in Egypt.

Convened together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates (MoFAICE) and the EU Delegation in Cairo, the session brought together senior representatives of key ministries and agencies to explore EFSD+ investment guarantees, blending mechanisms, and opportunities for investment-ready projects.

Discussions focused on strengthening institutional coordination and advancing projects aligned with Egypt’s and the EU’s shared priorities in energy, climate transition, infrastructure, digitalisation, and private sector development.

Through initiatives like this, PMCG continues to support institutional capacity building and the effective use of EU financing instruments for sustainable growth.

What does it take to build a stronger, more accountable local budget system?

PMCG has launched a new financed project in Uzbekistan to support the next phase of local budget reforms, bringing together evidence-based analysis, fiscal discipline, and practical implementation.

In partnership with the Center for Progressive Reforms (CPR) and in close cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the initiative will:
• Assess local revenues, expenditures, and intergovernmental transfers
• Review legal and institutional frameworks
• Benchmark international practices and tailor solutions to Uzbekistan’s context

Beyond analysis, the project will deliver a sequenced fiscal decentralization roadmap aligned with Uzbekistan’s PFM Strategy 2025–2030, ensuring reforms are realistic, coordinated, and actionable.

By translating data into decisions, this work will strengthen fiscal governance, enhance service delivery, and support more balanced regional development.

PMCG continues to drive high impact public finance reforms, where strategy meets implementation.

How much can infrastructure investments really improve everyday services?

PMCG has just completed the Final Social Survey assessing municipal utility services across Ukraine.

Through 5,000 household interviews in 9 cities, we measured changes in water supply, sanitation, and waste management benchmarking progress against the 2018 baseline.

The findings provide clear, data-driven evidence on how infrastructure investments translate into improved service quality, efficiency, and citizen satisfaction.

Despite a highly challenging environment, our team delivered rigorous analysis, high-quality data, and actionable insights to support better decision-making.

📍 Conducted under Ukraine’s Second Urban Infrastructure Development Project (UIP2), supported by the World Bank and the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories.
