One thing I always like showing in drawings is the drawer box internals. Most people only ever see the finished front, but this is the sort of detail that actually decides how usable the piece ends up being day to day. Little things like internal widths, clearances and clearly marked dead space make a massive difference once it’s built.

Good technical design relies on good information from the start. Accurate measurements help avoid unnecessary adjustments, delays and confusion once work moves forward. It’s one of those early steps that quietly affects the entire project. The more reliable the foundation, the smoother everything will run.

There’s a big difference between detailed and overcomplicated. Drawings can contain a huge amount of information without becoming difficult to read. Clear structure and consistency usually matter more than adding unnecessary layers to things. Technical work should support the project, not slow it down.

Running with the theme of projects in progress, this kitchen is another one currently in the early drawing stages. Just the initial set out done so far, still have tons to add with sections, leaders and blown up detail views.

Just started putting together the drawings for a bespoke shelving /storage unit, made to fit one of our client’s spaces exactly. Still early in the process, but getting the details right at this stage helps to keep decision making, manufacture, and installation running smoothly.

Anyone familiar with technical joinery drawings will see this as a really basic detail. But for people who don’t normally see this side of a project, it’s a good example of how drawings communicate fit, spacing and installation long before anything gets built. There’s a lot more information here than first meets the eye.

Details like this are easy to gloss over, but they protect everyone involved. Being clear about what’s supplied by who (and what isn’t) avoids confusion, delays, and costly arguments later on. It keeps the project running smoothly and makes responsibilities crystal clear from the start, rather than leaving things open to assumptions that can cause issues further down the line.

The goal isn’t to make things more technical, it’s to make them clearer. A well prepared drawing simplifies decisions, aligns everyone involved, and removes the need for constant explanation. It turns complexity into something straightforward and manageable.

Clearances like this are easy to overlook, but they matter more than you think. Miss them out and you can void appliance warranties without even realising. It also causes real issues in the cabinetry - heat and lack of airflow can lead to boards swelling and delaminating. Small detail, big consequences.
