Do you know that you can be a University Graduate and still be unemployable?
You see, as a job-seeker, one thing you must realise this month is that 'EMPLOYABILITY' is not the same as having subject knowledge, or qualifications.
In other words, the fact that you are a University Graduate doesn't mean you're employable. Yes, that's on a "Mary had a little lamb!" Lol.
Don't get me wrong, as a student having a first class degree is a GREAT ADVANTAGE. It gives you an edge over your others during your job-search.
However; in today's world of work, that you have a First class, Masters or PhD degree, is no longer enough to secure you or guarantee you a position.
You must have 'Employability skills'.
Employability skills are those set of skills almost everyone needs to do almost any job. They are Soft-Skills that look beyond your technical or academic skills and deals with your capabilities or competencies: aptitude, attitude and behaviour.
Some of these skills include:
Excellent communication, Team work, Problem solving & Critical thinking, Taking initiative, Planning and organising, Emotional intelligence etc.
These skils are very important as they will help you to easily:
✅Navigate the world of work
✅Interact with others
✅Get the work done.
Interestingly, these skills are more important now than ever and can easily be developed by anyone.
So, this month of July, we encourage you to commit to consciously improving your employability skills as they will always give you an added advantage in your job search journey.
P.S: Did you miss our last breakfast meeting session with Young Professionals? Don't fail to reserve your slot for July's edition. DM for more details.
May the odds always be in your favour.
Cheers to a new month!
