Explanation of (2 Peter 1:3) in greater depth, line by line, with spiritual clarity and doctrinal precision:

“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.”

1.“According as his divine power…”
This refers to God’s supernatural ability, His omnipotence.
It is not human strength or effort, but God’s own power that initiates and sustains the believer’s spiritual life.
This divine power is the source of all spiritual blessings (cf. Ephesians 1:3).

2.“…hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness…”
The phrase “hath given” is past tense, indicating that God has already provided everything we need.
“Life” refers to spiritual life, eternal life in Christ, the new birth, and the vitality to live for God.
“Godliness” speaks of a life that reflects God’s character, holiness, reverence, and obedience.
Together, this means that nothing is lacking for a believer to live a full, godly life. The provision is complete.

3.“…through the knowledge of him…”
These divine resources are accessed through knowing Jesus Christ.
The Greek word for “knowledge” here (ἐπίγνωσις, epignōsis) implies a deep, personal, experiential knowledge, not just intellectual awareness.
This emphasizes the relational nature of salvation, we grow in godliness by growing in our relationship with Christ.

4.“…that hath called us to glory and virtue.”
God’s call is effectual, He doesn’t just invite; He empowers.
“Glory” refers to the eternal destiny of believers: to share in God’s glory (Romans 8:30).
“Virtue” (Greek: aretē) means moral excellence, God calls us not only to be saved but to reflect His holiness in our conduct.
This calling is both positional (our identity in Christ) and practical (our daily walk).

Spiritual Insight:
This verse is a powerful reminder that God has not left us lacking. In Christ, we are fully equipped to live a life that pleases Him. The key is not striving in our own strength, but abiding in the knowledge of Christ, drawing from His power, and walking in the calling He has placed upon us.
