Basic First Aid and CPR training must be made compulsory in schools and communities. Many deaths on our roads can be avoided if people know how to give First Aid and CPR.

Between 2014 and 2022, my team and I travelled around the country conducting free Basic First Aid and CPR trainings for communities, schools, organisations and on TV. We donated First Aid kits and AEDs to some communities.

We started from the Southern part of Ghana with plans of reaching as many communities as we could, mostly remote villages with no medical facilities, across the country. Unfortunately, we were slowed down by COVID and personal circumstances.

However, after seeing a video today of a lady and her children whose car crashed into a river in the Eastern Region, I think it's time to get back on this mission. I also think it's time to have a national conversation about this pertinent issue.

In just a period of two weeks, I've witnessed 2 fatal accidents, 1 serious but non-fatal accident and a countless number of potentially fatal accidents as a result of broken-down trucks which have been left (or being repaired) in the middle of dark roads.

Almost everyday, containers fall off the back of trucks at junctions and sometimes lead to fatal or disruptive consequences. Most of these trucks are only secured with a single ratchet strap without any locking mechanism. Also, most of them have dysfunctional braking systems and as a result, kill other road users indiscriminately.

I took these pictures amongst others to highlight this serious public safety problem. People must be vigilant and take action against these reckless truckers. Because If you don't voice out against this recklessness, it could be you or a member of your family next.
