SANDVIK GHANA PROMOTES HEALTH, WELLBEING AND BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
As part of its commitment to sustainability, employee wellbeing, and community development, Sandvik Ghana organized a series of breast cancer awareness and screening activities under the theme "Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters." The initiatives aimed to promote early detection, improve health awareness, and increase access to preventive healthcare for employees and members of the company's host community.
At the Kumasi-Pakyi Site, employees participated in an interactive breast cancer awareness session facilitated by health professionals from the Obuasi Municipal Health Directorate. The session highlighted the importance of early detection, recognizing the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, and understanding available screening methods. Participants were encouraged to take proactive steps toward their health through regular screening and medical check-ups. A key message from the session was that breast cancer is highly treatable when detected early, reinforcing the importance of awareness and timely action.
Extending the campaign beyond the workplace, Sandvik Ghana partnered with Breast Care International to host a breast cancer awareness and screening programme at Pakyi No. 1, one of the communities in which the company operates. The event brought together community members, breast cancer survivors, and students from Pakyi No. 1 D/A Junior High School for a day of education, inspiration, and support.
A particularly impactful highlight of the programme was the sharing of personal experiences by breast cancer survivors, whose stories of resilience underscored the importance of regular screening and early intervention. Health professionals from Breast Care International educated participants on breast cancer prevention, symptoms, risk factors, and available screening options. Free screening services were also provided, giving community members access to potentially life-saving health checks.
The involvement of students added an important dimension to the programme, helping to foster health awareness among the younger generation and encouraging them to become advocates for healthy living within their families and communities.
