How do organizations attract and retain the talent needed for Ghana's next era of mining?

Yesterday, at the Ghana Chamber of Mines' 7th Biennial Human Resource Conference, our Director, External Relations and Communication, David Johnson, joined a panel discussion on "Inclusion as a Competitive Brand: Building an Employer Brand That Attracts and Retains Future Talent."

As competition for talent intensifies, organizations are increasingly judged not just by what they say, but by what employees experience and the stories they choose to share.

What do CEOs expect from HR in the next era of mining?

This was the focus of an executive fireside chat between our Country Manager, Danquah Addo-Yobo, and Patrice Ndzana, General Manager, Cummins Ghana Limited, during the 7th Biennial HR Conference organised by the Ghana Chamber of Mines, currently taking place at The Palms by Eagles, Accra.

Held under the theme, "Future-Ready People: Building the Workforce for Ghana's Next Era of Mining," the conference is bringing together industry leaders to discuss how technology, automation, sustainability and evolving workforce expectations are reshaping the industry.

During the conversation, Danquah shared why the future of mining will require HR leaders who go beyond managing processes to helping shape business outcomes through business acumen, strategic thinking, foresight, digital fluency and a deep understanding of the business.

The true value of a mine is measured not only by what it produces, but by the opportunities it creates.
This documentary tells the stories of people whose lives have been shaped by Ahafo North, from individuals building meaningful careers at the mine to entrepreneurs growing local businesses and creating jobs in their communities. Their experiences offer a powerful reminder that the impact of mining extends far beyond production to the opportunities it makes possible.
Through employment, enterprise and economic participation, these stories demonstrate how shared value is created when communities are empowered to grow alongside a mining operation. Watch the 8-minute documentary.

When Raphael Korda reflects on his Newmont journey, it's the people and the positive impact they create together that stand out most.
Raphael joined Ahafo South Mine in 2010 as a National Service Person in the Maintenance Department before taking on his first formal role as a Planning Assistant. Today, he serves as Director, Business Improvement, helping teams identify opportunities to improve performance and deliver greater value.
One of his proudest achievements was leading Ahafo South to become the top-performing site in Business Improvement (Full Potential) across Newmont's portfolio.
But some of his fondest memories are much simpler. He recalls the excitement of employees and visitors experiencing the renovated Akentensu Mess for the first time and the strong friendships built in the Mine Maintenance Planning Office, where colleagues regularly gathered to share meals, conversations and laughter.
For Raphael, the Newmont value that resonates most is Care Deeply because he believes that people are at the heart of every sustainable success.
Thank you, Raphael, for your leadership, dedication and commitment to making a positive impact.

Nine years ago, FATIMATU IDDRISU joined Newmont as a National Service Person with the Ahafo South Exploration Team. Today, she is a Supervisor Geologist, Exploration, helping identify and develop opportunities that could support Ahafo's future growth. One of Fatimatu's favourite Newmont memories is seeing the Apensu Underground project move closer to becoming a reality. “As an exploration geologist, there is nothing more rewarding than knowing that the resources we discover and develop today can create opportunities for the future. ” She is especially proud of the role she has played in advancing key projects such as Apensu, Awonsu, and Amoma. But for Fatimatu, success goes beyond discoveries underground. “I am proud of the opportunity to support and develop others, knowing that our greatest success comes not only from the resources we discover, but also from the people we help grow along the way.” The Newmont Value that inspires her most is Deliver Responsibly, a reminder to act with integrity, prioritize safety, and make decisions that positively impact people and the environment. Thank you, Fatimatu, for your passion, leadership, and commitment to creating opportunities for the future.

Congratulations to our Ahafo South mine’s First Aid and Safety Team for placing 2nd at the Zone Three First Aid and Safety Competition after an intense and highly competitive oral contest at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
The team demonstrated exceptional safety knowledge and a deep understanding of the Minerals and Mining Act to emerge as runners-up after a fiercely contested final that required multiple tie-break rounds. We are proud of this achievement and the team's commitment to our Always Safe culture. At Newmont, nothing matters more than the safety and wellbeing of our employees, contractors, and host communities.
Thank you to the Ghana Chamber of Mines and the Minerals Commission for organizing this important initiative, which continues to strengthen safety awareness and first aid readiness across the mining industry.

What a wonderful day in Kenyasi!
We are proud to have hosted our mining colleagues and stakeholders for the Zone 3 Inter-Mine First Aid & Safety Competition today, 1st August 2026.

Five teams competed:

Together, the teams put their emergency response skills, teamwork, and safety knowledge to the test — because in mining, safety is always the real win.

Congratulations to all participating companies for the strong competition and commitment to safety. Special recognition to our community contestants for securing 3rd place in the community category!

Beyond the trophies, the true value of today lies in the skills learned and the stronger safety culture we are building together across our mines and in our host communities.
