At least 47 people have been killed and 22 injured in an overnight gang raid on a displaced persons camp in Haiti. The attack happened at a church in Kenscoff, located on the hills outside Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince. The United Nations confirmed the death toll on Monday, warning that estimates could still rise. Many of those killed had already fled earlier gang violence this year. Residents are now demanding the local police chief resign, accusing officers of failing to protect people who were killed just minutes away from the police station. Haiti's Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aime condemned the attack and pledged to reinforce security. Kenscoff has suffered more than a dozen gang attacks since early 2025, when over 260 people were killed, 200 homes destroyed and 3,000 residents displaced. Meanwhile, elections are scheduled in Haiti for December this year, the country's first to be held since 2016.
