The journey began when two Mandela Washington Fellows pooled their collective experiences in civic leadership and social entrepreneurship to tackle a major crisis in Northern Ghana: rural-urban migration and educational inequality for young girls.
In many northern communities, economic opportunities for women are scarce, and subsistence farming is often unpredictable due to harsh weather. Desperate for income, many mothers are forced to leave for southern cities to find work, leaving their children behind and disrupting the education of the girl child.
The Fellows saw a solution rooted right in the local culture: the craftsmanship of eco-friendly baskets and fugu.
We just don't sell crafts, but we sell impacts changing livelihoods in Northern Ghana.
