PROPOSAL TO RELOCATE THE CAPITAL CITY TO THE NORTHEN REGION AND DEVELOP A NEW URBAN CENTRE

Your Excellency,
I am writing to propose the strategic relocation of Ghana's capital city from Accra to a newly developed urban centre in the Northern Region, potentially named "Tamale City." This initiative aims to drive economic balance, preserve the fertile lands of the south for agriculture, and create a modern metropolis to attract both African and international tourists.

Rationale
1. Preservation of Fertile Agricultural Lands
The southern regions of Ghana are blessed with fertile lands that are crucial for the nation's agriculture. However, the continuous population growth and urban sprawl are leading to these lands being converted into residential areas and industrial zones. Relocating the capital to the north will reduce the pressure on these fertile lands, ensuring they remain dedicated to agricultural use and thus securing food production for future generations.

2. Economic and Social Development in the Northern Region
The Northern Region, while rich in culture and history, has not seen the same level of economic development as the southern regions. Establishing a new capital in the north would stimulate economic growth, provide job opportunities, and improve the overall standard of living for the residents.

3. Utilizing Non-Fertile Lands
The lands in the northern regions are not as fertile as those in the south, making them more suitable for urban development. By building the new capital in this region, we can optimize land use across the country.

4. Employment Opportunities for Hardworking Populace
Many of the head porters (kayayei) in Accra are from the northern regions. These individuals are known for their hard work and resilience. The development of a new city would create numerous job opportunities, allowing these hardworking individuals to find employment closer to home and contribute to the city's growth.

VISION FOR TAMALE CITY
1. Dubai-Style Urbanization
Tamale City can be envisioned as a modern, well-planned metropolis, drawing inspiration from Dubai's rapid development and urban planning. This city would feature world-class infrastructure, including skyscrapers, advanced transportation systems, and state-of-the-art amenities to attract tourists and investors.

2. Tourism and Cultural Hub
The northern regions are rich in cultural heritage. Tamale City could serve as a cultural hub, showcasing the diverse traditions and history of Ghana. Developing tourist attractions such as museums, natural parks. cultural centres, and eco-friendly resorts would position the city as a key destination for both local and international tourists.

3. Sustainable Development
The city should be built with sustainability at its core, incorporating green building practices, renewable energy sources, and efficient waste management systems. This will not only protect the environment but also set a benchmark for future urban developments in Ghana.

Your Excellency, this proposal aims to create a balanced development across Ghana, ensuring that all regions contribute to and benefit from the nation's growth. By relocating the capital to the northern region and developing Tamale City as a modern urban centre, we can preserve our agricultural lands, stimulate economic growth in the north, and create a vibrant, sustainable city that showcases the best of Ghana.

I believe that with the right planning and ex*****on, this vision can become a reality, benefiting all Ghanaians and setting a precedent for innovative urban development in Africa.

Thank you for considering this proposal.

Yours faithfully,
Elliot Prosper Kwame Tekpor
