Electric power often needs different voltage levels. A transformer changes AC voltage using electromagnetic induction. When alternating current flows through the primary coil, it produces a continuously changing magnetic field in the iron core. The core guides this magnetic flux so it links efficiently with the secondary coil. Because the magnetic field is changing, it induces a voltage in the secondary winding.
The key relationship is the turns ratio: Vs/Vp = Ns/Np. If the secondary has more turns than the primary, the output voltage increases (step-up transformer). If it has fewer turns, the voltage decreases (step-down transformer). Power is approximately conserved, so when voltage increases, current decreases, and vice versa.
A transformer works only with AC because a steady DC current would create a constant magnetic field, which cannot induce voltage in the secondary.

These components are Zener diodes.

Like regular diodes, Zener diodes allow current to flow in one direction. However, their main purpose is to keep the voltage stable once it reaches a specific value (for example 3.3V, 5.1V, 12V, etc.). Because of this, they are commonly used in voltage regulation and over-voltage protection circuits.

The values shown in the image, ranging from 2.4V to 68V, represent Zener diodes with different voltage ratings.
They come in a small black SMD package, and the marking printed on top (such as W2, W5, etc.) indicates their voltage rating.
