Yesterday, Mr. Michael Kmiecinski, who is in charge of Political Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Ghana, visited the Sarkin Zango Palace as part of his stakeholder engagement with leaders of the Zango community.

He was welcomed at the palace by the Palace Secretary, Alhaji Abdallahi Alin Tofa, alongside some members of the Zango youth, who introduced him to the history of the Hausa people and the formation of the Zango community.

Before proceeding to the Kumasi Central Mosque for the main event, he learned about the various contributions and areas of expertise within the Zongo community, including trade, scholarship, military service, artistry, education, and other aspects of its rich cultural heritage.

Well deserved recognition

Well deserved recognition

Recognition feels good. But the older I get, the more I realise that the real reward is not being recognised. It is knowing that your work has made a difference.

It was an honour to be recognised for my contributions to trade, salt mining, aviation and business development at the “World-Meets-in-Ghana Executive Dinner Ball” held at Manhyia Palace, at the invitation of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

I receive the recognition with deep gratitude, but I also know that no meaningful impact is ever created alone. This recognition reflects the many exceptional friends, clients, partners, communities and stakeholders I have had the privilege of working alongside throughout my journey.

They have challenged me, trusted me, opened doors, shared business ideas, created opportunities and, in many ways, made the work possible.

That is why I believe contribution matters.

You do not have to wait until you have wealth, influence, a voice or a big platform before you start giving back. Start with what you have: your knowledge, your network, your time, your skills and your access. Someone around you needs something you already know or have. Give it, because when individuals contribute what they have, communities become stronger. And when communities become stronger, everyone has a better chance to thrive.

So, if you have been waiting for the “right time” to contribute, perhaps the right time is simply today. You may never fully know how far your contribution travels.
