From Orientation to Action – Skills in Motion! 🍞✨

Following an inspiring orientation session last week, the “Support for Local Training Providers in Ghana” project has now transitioned from introduction to hands-on impact.

This week, 30 participants began their practical journey into baking, marking a critical transition from foundational learning to hands-on, income-generating skills development.

From the very first session, the training was highly practical (70%), engaging participants in real production while grounding them in critical industry standards:

✔️ Hygiene, sanitation & safety in food production
✔️ Precision in measuring and following instructions
✔️ Professional discipline during preparation

And then came the moment of transformation…

Participants successfully completed their FIRST PRACTICAL, baking:
🥐 Cookies
🥯 Rock Buns
🍞 Scones

The excitement in the room was undeniable. For many, it was their first time producing market-ready products, and with that came a powerful realization:
“I can do this. I can build something from this.”

With 100% participation, the energy, commitment, and confidence demonstrated by participants signal more than just training — it signals readiness for self-employment and economic inclusion.

This is how skills development should work: practical, empowering, and directly linked to livelihoods.

We are proud to continue this journey of transforming potential into productivity

05/03/2026

The Founder and CEO of Kumasi City Incubation Hub, Emmanuel Asante-Okoto, was honored to be invited by the Nursing Students Association (NURSA) of Valley View University – Kumasi Campus to speak during their NURSA Celebration Week 2026.

The session focused on the theme: “Turning Care into Enterprise.”

This was a timely and commendable initiative by the student leadership to build the entrepreneurial capacity of their members, especially at a time when graduate unemployment among nurses is becoming a growing concern.

Today, the number of nurses graduating from our universities and training institutions is increasing faster than the rate at which healthcare facilities are expanding. In simple terms, more nurses are graduating than the number of positions our health institutions can absorb.

This reality should serve as an important signal to student nurses about what lies ahead after school.

During the session, I encouraged the students to begin thinking beyond traditional employment by learning how to identify problems, build valuable skills, and create solutions that people are willing to pay for.

I challenged them to explore opportunities around:
• What they are naturally good at
• What people consistently seek their help for
• Problems in society that irritate or concern them enough to solve

For many nursing graduates today, three possible paths often emerge after school:
1. Wait to be posted into the public health system
2. Travel abroad in search of opportunities
3. Create opportunities while building a career

This conversation was designed to help them carefully reflect on these realities and begin preparing themselves to take control of their future.

Entrepreneurship is not about abandoning the nursing profession. It is about expanding the possibilities of what nurses can become and contribute to society.

Thank you to the leadership of NURSA at Valley View University – Kumasi Campus for the invitation and for prioritizing the future readiness of your members.

Together, we must continue to equip young professionals with the mindset and skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
