Greetings! We trust that you are doing well.
Last week we promised to begin a weekly series on the various programs in our institutions of higher learning.
Before we go further we wish to encourage you to share this information with any persons who may need it even if you may not need it yourself, and also remember that to be truly educated, you must know everything about something, and something about everything! This way, we will all be contributing to a developed Ghana.
Before we plunge into discussing the various programs of study, we find it convenient at this point to introduce you to some of the current qualifications available in our institutions of higher learning.
In this present age, formal education qualifications based on the ability to read and write for virtually all careers. Modern society has an innumerable variety of tasks to be performed which vary widely in terms of the education required to perform them.
Commercial/Business certificates: these certificates are vocationally biased, as compared to senior high school leaving certificates like the SSCE and WASSCE. Commercial schools train primary and junior high school leavers in secretarial/administrative and accounting skills in order to equip them for employment in commerce and industry. The courses normally last for 3 years.
Technical/vocational: these certificates are rated as being equivalent to commercial/ business certificates. Most of the vocational courses are assessed by the National vocational training institute (NVTI) and the polytechnics.
Degrees: the next group of qualifications are awarded by universities and degree awarding "polytechnics. Most universities also run pre-degree certificate and diploma courses but their preoccupation is with degree courses.
A first degree is called a bachelor’s degree (certainly not because many people acquire it before marriage).
Ponder over these and stay connected with us as we discuss the first program of study at the tertiary level :
BSc Business Administration.
