BUSINESS NEWS | GHANA AND BEYOND 🌍 MAY 04, 2026

🚩Fan Milk PLC posted a strong first-quarter performance for 2026, with revenue rising by 33% year-on-year to GH¢321.6 million, from GH¢242.2 million in the same period of 2025. The Ghana Stock Exchange-listed dairy producer said profit before tax increased by 84% to GH¢61.2 million, compared with GH¢33.2 million a year earlier, reflecting stronger sales growth and improved gross margins. Profit after tax increased more modestly, rising to GH¢27.6 million, from GH¢24.1 million in the first quarter of 2025. Earnings per share improved to GH¢0.24, from GH¢0.21, based on 116.2 million shares outstanding.

🚩President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to construct a new 1,200-megawatt gas-fired power plant as part of efforts to expand Ghana’s electricity generation capacity and meet rising demand. Speaking during the “Resetting Ghana” tour in the Eastern Region on Saturday, May 2, the President said the government will cut sod this year for work to begin on the project. According to him, the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen the country’s power sector by increasing generation and creating redundancy within the system.

🚩Kasapreko PLC has delivered a 55 per cent increase in profit for the first quarter ended March 31, 2026, driven by a sharp reduction in borrowing costs and a modest uplift in revenue. Profit of the Accra-based alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages manufacturer, for the period, climbed to GH₵73 million from GH₵47.2 million in the same quarter last year, despite higher administrative expenses and impairment losses on financial assets. Revenue edged up to GH₵853.2 million from GH₵821.9 million in the prior year quarter, reflecting resilient demand across its portfolio of spirits, non-alcoholic drinks and export products.

Godfred Odoom(FCCA,MPA,IIA):
BUSINESS NEWS | GHANA AND BEYOND 🌍 APRIL 30, 2026

🚩Societe Generale Ghana recorded a sharp drop in first-quarter profit as lower net interest income and a reversal in credit impairment dynamics weighed on earnings, even as the lender strengthened capital and liquidity buffers and continued to grow customer deposits. In its unaudited financial statements for the quarter ended 31 March 2026, the bank reported a profit after tax of GH¢51.7m, down from GH¢136.6m in the same period last year. Profit before tax fell to GH¢78.3m from GH¢212.6m, reflecting a weaker revenue base and higher impairment charges. Despite the earnings decline, the bank’s balance sheet showed improving buffers and continued funding growth. Total assets were broadly flat at GH¢10.62bn, up from GH¢10.57bn, while customer deposits rose to GH¢6.67bn from GH¢6.44bn, indicating steady deposit mobilisation.

🚩Ghana’s construction sector is showing sustained signs of easing price pressures, with the latest data indicating a continued slowdown in building cost inflation, creating cautious optimism for investors, developers and households. According to the March 2026 Prime Building Cost Index (PBCI) released by the Ghana Statistical Service, year-on-year inflation in building costs declined to 2.2%, down from 2.4% in February 2026. This marks the 11th consecutive month of declining inflation in the sector. On a monthly basis, however, prices still edged up, with building input costs rising 0.8% between February and March 2026, suggesting that while inflation is slowing, cost increases have not completely reversed.

🚩Ghana has begun the Sixth Review of its programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), with Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson describing the country’s reform programme as a “transformative” journey and a clear success. The Minister formally received the IMF Mission team led by Dr. Ruben Atoyan in Accra. Reflecting on Ghana’s recovery since the 2022 economic crisis, Dr. Forson said the partnership between government and the IMF has delivered strong and measurable outcomes.

Godfred Odoom(FCCA,MPA,IIA):
BUSINESS NEWS | GHANA AND BEYOND 🌍 APRIL 29, 2026

🚩West Africa-focused independent oil and gas explorer Tullow Oil posted an 87% slump in ‌annual profit on Tuesday. This was partly due to lower production, while delayed payments from the Ghana government continued to weigh on its finances. The heavily indebted company had launched a capital overhaul after declining production and overdue payments from the Government of Ghana squeezed cash flow, while selling non‑core assets to streamline its operations across West Africa and steady the business. The London-listed company's profit after tax for the year ended December 31, 2025, came in at $7 million, compared with $55 million reported a year earlier.

🚩In resource-rich economies, recognition without reinforcement often yields symbolism without substance. The recent honour bestowed on Daniel McKorley at the Ghana CEO Summit offers a compelling entry point into Ghana’s broader industrialisation discourse. This article interrogates the economic, institutional, and developmental implications of the rise of Electrochem Ghana Limited and argues that sustained and strategic backing from the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) is indispensable for unlocking the full potential of the salt industry. Drawing on industrial policy theory, public–private partnership frameworks, and emerging evidence from Ghana’s extractive sector, the article concludes that aligning recognition with capital, policy consistency, and institutional collaboration is critical for achieving long-term national gains.

🚩President John Dramani Mahama on Monday cut the sod for a major expansion of Accra International Airport, casting the project as a strategic economic play rather than a ceremonial ribbon-cutting. The sod-cutting marks the start of construction of a connecting concourse that will link Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, an intervention the government believes is now necessary because traffic growth is colliding with the airport’s current operating design. When completed, the connecting concourse will deliver five passenger boarding air bridges, modern waiting and holding areas, premium and VIP lounges, retail and commercial facilities and enhanced passenger service infrastructure, he said. The goal is to transform the way passengers move through the airport, enabling “seamless, secure and efficient connectivity” between the terminals, while improving aircraft turnaround time and elevating service quality.

Godfred Odoom(FCCA,MPA,IIA):
BUSINESS NEWS | GHANA AND BEYOND 🌍 APRIL 28, 2026

🚩Deloitte has revealed in its March 2026 Inflation Update that upside risks remain despite ease in inflation. According to the professional services firm, the International Monetary Fund’s 2026 average forecast of 9.9% suggests price pressures could re-emerge later in the year from foreign exchange pass-through effect, higher global commodity prices, or administered price adjustments. It however stated that the fiscal consolidation is expected to support price stability, as the government targets a primary surplus of about 1.5% of GDP in 2026. This reinforces disinflation, stabilising the cedi, and limiting inflationary financing pressures.

🚩Tullow Oil has taken a decisive step forward in its refinancing effort after securing overwhelming support from bondholders for a transaction designed to reshape its near-term debt profile. In an update on Wednesday, the company said its consent solicitation relating to $1.285bn of 10.25 per cent senior secured notes due 2026 expired on April 21 with valid and unrevoked consents representing more than 99 per cent of the outstanding principal amount of the notes. That level of support matters. It gives the independent energy group, whose core producing assets are in Ghana, a much firmer platform from which to execute a refinancing transaction that had become central to managing its balance sheet ahead of the 2026 maturity wall.

🚩An International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff mission is expected in Accra from April 29, 2026, for Ghana’s sixth and final review under its Extended Credit Facility programme. The mission is expected to stay in the country for about two weeks, with the first official engagements likely to begin on Thursday, April 30, 2026. JOYBUSINESS understands this will be the final programme review as Ghana prepares to exit the IMF-supported programme in August 2026, after signing up to a three-year Extended Credit Facility arrangement.
